The hybrid will probably get the same 8.9 front diff and 9.5 rear diff as the taco. Full size differentials in a mid size, not bad, one could say borderline commercial grade ;).

Time will tell if it holds up better than the Tundra is.

That’s what I’m saying too haha, it was already priced kinda too high. It feels like they’re seeing how far they can push the envelope with pricing. Maybe price elasticity has changed in the auto market. Sometimes I wonder if housing prices across the country are changing buyers price sensitivity towards cars. Maybe they can’t afford a new house so they feel more comfortable spending a larger percentage of their income on a vehicle.

Hopefully, everything post covid seems worse quality and higher priced.

It is priced high for sure....I think I can probably get 2 used 5th gens with under 100K on the clock for the price of a new one. At the rate I drive, I would never have to buy anything else...heck the way the 4 runners hold up just one of em under 100k would probably do the trick.

The early 5G didn't have Safety Sense or Apple Car Play standard. Toyota isn't going to give that away for free.

If you order a TH or Pro, the distributor will take off the factory Rock Rails (TH) or Reinforced Rocker Protectors (Pro) and install/charge you for the Predators.

Today, the local dealer told me that the iForce Max is going to be delayed to the point where it will likely be a 2025.

I thought someone on here this morning said the Tacoma Hybrid Event reveal is next week?

Yeah, not sure. I’m thinking “revealed” and “delivered” are two different things.

    Test drove a 2024 Tacoma SR5 yesterday.

    1. Ride is improved over my Gen 2 but not by leaps and bounds.
    2. Build quality seemed fine. Good, if anything.
    3. The transmission made some good decisions, some questionable decisions, and some bad ones.
    4. The biggest single improvement, which really surprised me, was braking action. Very smooth, and controlled, and the stopping distance has been reduced.
    5. The back seats are unimpressive. It's small back there.
    6. The bed is fine, and adequate.
    7. The tailgate did some weird shit where I had to unlatch it twice to get it all the way down. May have been user error.
    8. The engine puts out when you ask her to. Going from 25 MPH to 50 MPH is a bit of a thrill. I definitely perceived some turbo lag, though.
    9. The exhaust sounds like ass. As in literal old man ass. I don't like it. It's also louder in the cab than it should be.
    10. The engine was pinging. The dealer said they were feeding her 87.
    11. The engine was making another sound that didn't seem right. Reminded me a bit of the quirky stuff that my 16-YO 1GR-FE does.
    12. I didn't have time muck with the electronics but did note that the JBL sound system was meh.

Yes, I know. I floated it here to verify, though. I'm always 3 steps ahead of the game. And 5 steps behind. For a net of two steps behind.

    Interesting about the tailgates….

I looked over an SR5, and the tailgate initially didn’t want to go down, almost like it was too light. So I assisted it going down.

Later, I looked over an OR with full-tilt premium for $54k. The tailgate was happy to power down, however, refused to go up. So, I assisted it to go up.

Both times (as the salesman shrugs over his $50k truck…) I’m thinking to myself, hasn’t Toyota been making tailgates since the 1950’s?

That's what I think the issue was, in retrospect. The gas springs were overpowering the mass of the tailgate.

Did either or both have the spray-in bed liner? Saw a video where the bedliner caused too much friction at the hinge joint. Will probably self correct over time.

I thought the bed was composite.

Tried to. But they balked at my demand for free undercoating and floor mats so I stormed out.
