Hello, I am hoping to replace the 4 cam bolts and hardware in my Gen 1 Tacoma. I don't have the time or money to replace bushings or the entire arm right now. If I have the front on jack stands would there be any torque on the bolts, enough to where I could not get the bolts and sleves out? I do realize that I could have a frozen one, just wanted to get this done in hopes of getting ahead of issues down the road. Thx for any help.

There’s a chance they’re seized to the lower control arm bushings, which would mean cutting them out and doing new bushings anyway.

But if they’re not, I think pulling the coil over and maybe disconnecting the swaybar is enough to relieve the lca bolts.

I had it aligned about a year ago, no issues then. Thx for the suggestion, seems like that would work.

You might end up unbolting the lbj too if you need more wiggle. Been a while since I had mine apart though…

First question is why do you think you need to replace these, are they rusted out or otherwise failing? The irony is a set of cam bolts is about the cost of one full OEM A-arm with bushings installed.

Yest there is torque on the bolts, 100 Ft/Lbs for the 6 lug, and for at least one of the ones in the rear you might have to remove the steering rack bolts and move the rack rearward to get it out (may be incorrect on this one, it's been a while since I did it.) In any case if you decide to move forward, before touching anything get a white Sharpie paint pen and mark all cam locations front and back before breaking them loose. You'll still need an alignment after replacing them.

When putting them back in, get them only "sorta tight" on the stands, then set it on the ground to do the final torque of 100 FT/LBS.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Why not wait and do everything at once. Rather then remove and replace them several times and get several alignments. I have never replaced any that did not need to be burned out.

My go to is source used control arms and rebuild them and swap everything and new ball joints one weekend.

I guess it depends where the truck lives.

Have you already changed your Lower Ball Joints??
