    Hello all ,

First of all I want to publicly apologize to @bgavin for being an asshat, bully and possibly a nuisance towards you.I was brought up as a child not to judge people and to treat everyone with respect.

More importantly respect my elders. So I hope you see this and accept my apology.Secondly in November 15,2022 I had my tailgate stolen. After a 5 month battle with insurance they finally paid out, and replaced my tailgate.IMG_0378.jpg

Im happy with the results but one small minor detail.See for yourself IMG_1866.jpg
    IMG_1867.jpg
    IMG_1868.jpg
    IMG_1869.jpg

The original lettering is chrome from the factory, when i got my replacement tailgate all of the letters are in matte black LOL.So I leave my trucks fate in yalls hands.
Should I remove the chrome letters or just leave it and have chromed letters and matte black letters? And if i were to remove what should I use to remove it?

As you can see from the pictures the front side doors the tacoma is in chrome and badging and letters in the back are matte black lol

I wouldn't do anything with it.
It's not like it's in your face when you're enjoying your truck.

Where did that tailgate come from? Black overlays and black letter inserts indicate that it's a used tailgate to me.

I’d just remove the v6 and call it done. If the truck is a 2020 you’re likely to have some fading around the “Tacoma” badges if you remove those. The black letters on the MGM seem pretty subtle to me and I’d just leave them.

Yes sir your spot on its used. I know this because the bodyshop owner pointed it on the receipt that he he had no choice he had to get it used, he simply had the lock cylinder rekeyed and painted it so it looked like new.

I vote pull them all. Lots of posts about the process if you google “tacomaworld debadge”.
Heat and fishing line for the plastic, chemical (goo something. I forget if “gone” or “off” is safe for paint) or rubber wheel for removing the residue.
I pulled my badges and stickers off my 19 in 22. Slight ghosting below the bed stickers, couldn’t even tell where the badges were though

you're probably going to need to leave the badges. i'd bet they were lazy and painted around the badging, as most minimally-paid workers would do. removal will leave you with far more regrets than just leaving it as-is.

the irony though, that used tailgate most likely came from a thief that simply stole it from someone else, to complete the cycle...

Especially if the original tailgate color was much lighter than MGM.
Either way, the truck still runs the same.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
I'd get the black overlay to put on the other two up front and call it a day.

    If you decide to remove…..

Heat with a hair dryer. Get it hot, but still cool enough to touch with bare hand. The emblem will feel off easily. Use heat to keep the adhesive warm and pliable. It will remove with fingers. Remove adhesive residue with WD40

The black overlays came with the “blackout” package. My truck came with them as new.

I prefer the blackout lettering and would buy some for the door badges so everything matches. They are pretty inexpensive to purchase and they just stick on over the chrome batches.

You maybe correct , but i really doubt they painted over it. It looks nothing less then a professional installation and paint job

    Chrome don't get you home.
It's an old man detail carry over from the 80's. Doesn't belong on anything made after 2006.

Ah yes, everyone's favorite trim, the SR5 TRD Pro

Stay away from adding custom badges and fenders and you'll be fine lol
