Previous owner? What do you even mean by that? I’ve owned the truck for ~8 years. It had 100K on it when I bought it and I installed new OME leafs 40K ago.

I swapped on the new model OME leafs last weekend. Just liked the design of the new leafs and I’ll repurpose the old ones to my other truck or a friend's 1st gen. We spoke about this like last week I thought.

Ignore, thought it was ozark she quoted.

Nick's been complaining about a lot of things falling in the exact category you're discussing as of yesterday and day before.

First warm day, cleaned the pig, found that the passenger cv boot is spewing grease.
Original too as far as I know, 23 years is a pretty damn good run.
New boot kit time it seems.

Member wanted to replace his lights on his bumper; bottom right mount is the template needed for mounting to the bumper, and the bottom left template needed for mounting the light

    20240330_140415.jpg

Correct light and bumper template all in one

Nah you’re good. I’m just venting to you guys honestly. It’s been insane dealing with these issues when you can’t even trust the local tire or alignment shops.

And most of my friends drive leaf spring F-250s that shake apart on the highway so they aren’t good people to vent to.

That chamfer bit is duller than a stamp collectors convention in Boring, OR... pushing so much of a burr it made the metal taller haha

Two different machine shops (supplies) didn't even want to sell me anything, saying I need a corporate account or some other dumb shit :jerkoff:

The parts arrived just last night, and with my dad having arrived today, I figured I'd try the bits on stainless

Think the harder material reduced the chatter and really made the finish a lot smoother but on maybe 3 out of the 8 holes, they were raised just a tad

Still going to order myself some but from McMaster-Carr. Thing is I don't know how many flutes I should get as they even suggest their one or two flute for stainless just the same as their four and five flute.

Stainless work hardens miserably. If you aren't cutting you're rubbing and if you're rubbing the chances of you cutting again drop drastically. I hate manually working stainless. For deburring I used a single flute on stainless, but a four flute and the precise right speed should be adequate for countersinking.

To add, you should do this in the drill press and once you start getting a good cut going don't lighten up or go harder, work that fine line until you're at the depth you want.

    Noted on the four flute!

Weird thing is, the difference between each of them in say a 3/8" size bit was within a few dollars if going one flute up to five

All done on the drill press

    20240330_131229.jpg

CNC is accurate, but it ain't making perfect holes this small so manual drilling it is!

Even if I added a pierce point with CNC, that would've hardened the metal as well.

You'll get a feel for the feed and speed for drilling and working stainless. It's harder for sure, but do it enough and you'll find out what works. My advice, don't buy into the market BS behind drill bit "material coatings". I do everything with cheapo black oxide bits and its because I know how to not burn a bit up doing something dumb like running too fast or not pushing hard enough. Once you get a feel you'll see it's just a technique thing. There's only a few processes and materials the absolutely need a hard bit like carbide (counter sinking is one of those).

    For sure

I've done soooooooo much mild, especially at one job or even here at home often.

Stainless definitely likes its cutting fluid and its funny you say that about the technique thing cause I'm running at about 480-500 RPM with little effort, and it just became super smooth running that countersink.

However, when I pushed a tad more (for a little more depth) that's when I knew I stuck around too long in the same spot cause it pushed metal upward like you noted.

A carbide countersink bit and more practice and I should get it looking good every time.
