As a person who has been building and racing cars for decades (not sure why this or you being a tech is relevant), the “style” of the engine bay of a daily driver truck couldn’t possibly matter less.

Yeah, for the entry level stuff. The Q8 in my picture configured today is $96k. Pretty cool design where you have to disassemble half the engine bay to get to the oil filter. It’s on top which is convenient for not needing a lift but that’s not worth it at all for the work needed to get to it.

Yeah but many of us don’t care about covers. There’s already a hood, I don’t care how pretty what’s underneath is for a daily driver. I’d rather not have a cover that hides leaks and requires removal

and I bet a look inside your toolbox and it’s just as well “organized” as the gen 4 engine bay. After 45 years in the industry, I have a pretty good take on somebody’s mechanical ability by looking at the organization of their toolbox. Well off topic by now but I stand by my assessment that the gen 4 engine bay is one of the most haphazard and disorganized ones I have seen. The power and torque numbers are impressive, I’d just like to see what all that wiring and plumbing looks like in 100k miles with all the added heat of a turbo. If other brands are any indication, it isn’t going to be pretty. Everything you touch will be so brittle it will snap apart.

My box is in perfect order, but okay. Weird to start questioning someone’s mechanical ability just because they disagree about an engine cover

After visiting several lots over the last months, I continue to see the same Tacomas week after week. They are just sitting there with ZERO customer interest. Moreover I have yet to see one on the road (MD, DC, VA area). I personally can't see considering them until discounted at a minimum 11/12%. While 2k off is certainly encouraging it's a rather insignificant dent in the price.
