What problems do the 2019 have. I want the latest pre covid if i go third gen. Or a 2015 the better choice. 4x4 prefer manual tranny but likely wont find one. Auto likely

There was no difference with the truck quality from 19-23. Starting in ‘20 they got a few more options as standard. If you want a manual you’ll want to include those extra four years of production to make finding one easier.

Why pre-Covid? I own a 2019 and lick the steering wheel all the time….

Quality control went down the toilet. On lots of things. Everyone knows that

I dunno, my 2020 has been awesome. Really appreciated the 2020 refresh. Especially the drivers power adjustable seat.

Meh I had a 2010 and now an 18. They bolth have pros and cons. Get a tune it fixes the majority of the complaints regarding the trans. The motor has plenty of pep you just have to dig into the upper rpm range for it.
So I personally don't put one above the other. You will likely enjoy either one op.

Get whatever’s gonna make you happy. If you want my opinion….I’d get a 2023.

    I have a 19 and no issues to date . I had a few recall /TSB
Fuel pump ( never had an issue but had it done)
Rear top brake light ( they modified , never had an issue )
Ecu up date ( got it done , just to do it , never really thought it was bad before )
    Other than maintenance nothing else

My 2020 is pre-covid. Not sure if that matters.
But, there was a refresh in 2020 that affected drivability, specifically shift points in the automatics.
Also, early 2020s still have the external transmission cooler.

My advise is get a 2020 or later.

The 15's engine is better paired with the transmission for a truck[let] then the 19's engine/transmission. If you can't pull the higher gearing in a vehicle in normal driving, it's useless.

The 3.5 wasn't a ''bad'' engine, [though it did have some oiling issues at angles] but it was a poor match with the auto transmission they used due to gearing.

My 2013 is nice & I love it. Have you test drove both generations? That’s where you’ll know which one you want

There was certainly a lot more strain put on quality processes because of all the disruptions caused by COVID, no question. The company I work for was no exception.
Were Toyota's processes robust enough in the US and Mexico to weather those years without issues spiking?

When making a critical decision, it’s best to carefully weigh the pros and cons, as they relate to your personal needs. For instance, advantages of buying the 2015 would include:

A.) You can troll the Gen3 owners forum for many, many years to come.

    B.) And, that’s about it.

    Good luck.

I read some comments before the 2019 cab would eventually rattle. I live and drive alot of gravel roads so this is a concern for me. Anyone confirm this with the idea you spend a fair amount of time off pavement?

Working on a lien delete for my title…..
    I’ve had both…

I like the look of the 3rd Gen, inside and out…that being said, the 2nd Gen seems more like a Tacoma should be.

If my 2013 was an Off Road, I would take it back in a heartbeat.
