Changed my tires on my 2022 TRD Sport 4x4 to Cooper Discoverer STT Pro 295/70 r17 and noticed an oil leak by the transfer case. Dealer says it's because of the tire size, but no one I know -even with bigger wheels- has had this issue.
Anyone here know's what might it be? Any known fix?

    Thanks!

It's not the tires, dealer has been smoking the cabbage again. Anything to disallow warranty repairs.

Hopefully the bolt is loose and seeping, if not I'd push for a warranty repair.

Dealer is smoking crack and worthless. Speak with the service manager. There is no way they can blame a leak on larger tires.

Push it up to Corporate if needed.

Snug the bolt up. Clearly coming right from the bolt. Worth a shot to see if it stops dripping .

Thank you all for your replies.
So I’ll do the tightening of the bolt and will go to the dealer on Monday to see what’s their next idea not to make the warranty valid.
    Thanks!

Any wetness farther up in this area?

On my 2015 I had a slow leak at the t-case input seal, pretty much from day one. The "dry" cavity between the trans and t-case was full of gear oil, and it was seeping out at the seam where they meet.

So yesterday after work I gave it like a 10th of a turn to the bolt which seemed pretty tight, still was able to tighten it a bit more -with a normal ratchet-.
Sprayed it with degreaser and wiped the area.

No sign of leak this morning.

Next question is… how do I know how much fluid did it loose?

    thanks everyone!

Start adding fluid to the fill hole until it starts dribbling out. (On a level surface)

Usually gear cases that don't have a measuring device (dipstick) you remove the fill plug and stick your finger in to check the level. Or if it's full some fluid will come out the fill hole. Make sure vehicle is on a level surface when checking.

It’s a “fill until spill” case

Yeah that's a weird one to just develop out of the blue unless it has been leaking for a while. Usually you run a bead of sealant around the bolt holes so there's no chance oil gets in there. So the bolt and washer is not what seals oil from seeping. As others said, dealer just didn't want the warranty claim to drop the t-case and reseal it. This absolutely should've been covered in 3yr/36k.

It looks like a typical union seal leak, so the seal between tcase and trans.

If we denied warranty for tires we'd be run out of town. They just don't want to do it.

You could always come back with a stock set just to tell them off.

Update: Brought back the truck to the dealer and the chief mechanic is in charge now.

Apparently what needs to be changed is the transfer case retention… not sure how’s it called in English, but here’s a diagram of it.

Got the oil refilled and will wait for the piece to arrive to Cabo.

Will be covered by warranty thanks to all of your replies.

    Thanks again!

I'd find that original guy who said it was due to over-sized tires and ask him to explain his thoughts.
