Have not yet, but I'm sure they are somewhere close to next.

I pulled the driveshaft, surprisingly quick and easy when motivated by rage.
It's definitely the rear end. Fucker pops and snaps at 12mph with no driveshaft.
With the neighborhood noise makers inside feeding, it's quiet enough to finally tell what's up.

Got to make a decision now, have an appointment Tuesday AM.
Knowing it's the rear, maybe start pulling the shafts, hope it's just the bearings.
Then drop the diff and see what falls out.

Or take the gamble and drive the 7 miles to the shop and walk away.
It's much more prominent with the shaft off.

Then get out and lock your hubs when you know the roads are gonna possibly be shit and you can shift on the fly just fine, at any speed. Not just below 50mph like the current system.
Pretty much commonplace before the electronic failure was intruduced.
You get up in the morning, see white shit on the ground and lock the hubs while it's warming up. While scraping the ice off, just reach down and give it a twist.
    :D

I'm just happy to figure it out.
And, I have front/rear set of 4:10 Toyota gears that need a new home.
If the LSD is fucked, then she might get the Detroit that all you pusillanimous fuckers detest so much. :D
I never knew "pussy" came from pusillanimous until the other day in one of the threads here.
I'll be using that more often, kind of like "good for you"

It's pretty easy to track the immigration to, and the changing ideologies of, our state and see where we're headed and why.

Unfortunately, the widespread conclusion will be to double down on the foolishness until we become San Francisco or Chicago. It's apparently called "progress" :notsure:

I know a few of you have used ECGS for gears, how is their track record?

i am running 3 different 5.29 thirds setup by them. Two Nitro and one Yukon, trucks are on locked on 35s and 37s. Patterns came looking decent and none of them have exploded yet :notsure:

@literallynothing is doing gears now if you want to have them done locally

Should there be play in the backing plate? I assume the bearings and that other shit are one assembly?
    The plate deflects about 1/4".
    Lifted.

    Pushed.

That brown shit don't look right either.
Assuming it's just the bearings, any reason to drop the diff other than for your entertainment?

looks like you got water in there at some point, i would assume the bearing is cooked just by how it looks

Let's assume the previous owner of the axle submersed it. My baby don't play in the mud. :D
This one was installed last summer, bought it from @ShiftyShank, who bought it from a wrecking yard, so who knows the history. Like I said before, the mileage is on par for replacement anyway.
If the noise goes away, done. If not, will cross that bridge later.
Hand down the easiest, cleanest, rust free removal of an axle shaft ever. My Scout would have had a half dozen broken rusted bolts.
