Would you ever consider doing an engine swap if something happened to your engine? I only ask because I’ve seen a 2JZ and 6BT 80 in person now.

I really don’t know why the dude with the 2J didn’t just build a custom buggy because it evolved into that rapidly.

 

I've been thinking this thing is going to die at some point for the last 5 years or so but it hasn't so none of my plans ever even begun to materialize. I had two main plans though and I'd have to pick one or the other. My first would be to rebuild the one FZ but for boost and run a haltech and change the transmission out for a ZF 8 speed out of a Dodge ram 1500. There's an adapter for that now and it would allow much better use of the Rev range of the 1fz contributing to better gas mileage and better performance in boost. The other would be a more boring option and would probably cost about the same and that would be to swap in a GM LT motor and 10 speed transmission. But I've worked on in some way or another for LS swaps in the last 3 years and the LT is so similar that I think I could get it done quicker too which gives it an extra point. That said I'm extremely bored of the idea and the execution of working on the GM motors and harnesses. It holds much less interest to me and quite frankly is going to make less power at the same price level. if I also factored in the cost of boosting the ls it would definitely get an extra point but does this thing need to be that powerful, no. Ultimately I hardly even drive it anymore so even if this engine was on its last legs and I don't think it is it would probably still have another 10 years like that with less than a thousand miles on it a year now

 

It’s cool how many adapters are showing up for the 80. The 1FZ boosted option sounds the most interesting for sure.

 

Definitely agree on that, I don't really like V8 noises that much either. I would much rather hear an inline 6.

Not everyone uses an LM7 or LQ4. They just get mentioned a lot because they're a dime a dozen and are found in anything from an Avalanche, Trailblazer, and more.

Then you have your aluminum blocks, different cam/head combinations (from say, a Corvette).

Doing an engine swap is all about personal preference; if I had the money and know-how I'd want to go 6BT in an 80 series.

But bold to assume someone just wants the noise and that they should get a Tahoe. You've never owned a V8, at least not a GM V8. They're easy to make lots of power from and are hard to kill which is why they're so popular with tons of aftermarket support.
