A Ford Super Duty can fit 35s stock…37s with a leveling kit. Can tow just about anything you put behind it. There is no kill quite like overkill… :D

Money isn’t valid to you? Why invest over $3000 Into something that you may just sell?

I’ve already paid quite a bit to have the truck setup the way it is. I don’t have any of the stock suspension, wheels/tires etc to put back on.

I’ve had the truck listed for sale for months. No one wants it private party unfortunately. I’m not sure I want to risk the money in regearing it to ultimately end up unhappy and sell it anyway. The truck stock wasn’t much better, of course it got worse but even stock I wasn’t happy.

If you won’t change the setup of the truck, or change the gears… what are you willing to do?

I would not consider my 2011 "under powered" mind you it is a manual I tow a duel axle 17 foot camper in the 3500+ range. No truck towing gets good mileage, none. But hey they bring a pretty good price used. Sounds like you need a diesel dually 3500 some thing.

Are you at least adjusting the MPGs for the signicantly larger tires? If not, you are getting better than the dash reports.

That wasn't the concern I was referring to; several folks have recommended you change your gearing and the blowback you've given them is nothing but noise. If you replace the gearing, your towing capabilities will improve fairly dramatically.

Question: why did you come here, apparently for advice, and then argue with anyone providing it?

If you're unwilling to spend $5k for gears then the best financial decision if to put it back to stock. It'll be less expensive than rehearing or buying new.

The financial argument against a regear doesn't make sense if the cost of a new vehicle is being justified for looks. I'm also guessing you would modify the full size you bought as well?

With it lifted and on bigger tires the towing capability drops. It does on every truck. You can't expect factory towing performance when you modify. That's the non-monetary part of the pay to play equation.

This, and having started with a marginal tow vehicle, has only made things worse. Since OP must have 35s, I would skip the additional mods, and get on down to a larger, more tow, capable truck.
As far as selling the mod'ed Tacoma? Well that's a jamb, your options are: Return to stock, adjust your price, or be prepared to wait it out for the one or two buyers that are willing to pay what you think it's worth. That's the B, many times aftermarket additions reduce the value.

It’s not that I’m unwilling. I’ve already spent countless time and money making the truck what it is. I do not have stock parts to simply put back on. Regearing it is not a guaranteed fix. I have no problem regearing it if I knew it would fix my concerns. But I don’t and that’s at minimum yet another $3000 to do.

I think you’re misinterpreting my post if you think I need a dually diesel

    Two comments:
    1. Changing your gearing is guaranteed to improve your towing capabilities; period, full stop, the end.
    2. It sounds like no matter what you do, you'll be dissatisfied; time to sell the truck at a loss and buy something you'll be happy with.

    1. I’m not arguing that it won’t help, but how much is remained to be seen. It’s not going to make the Tacoma something it’s not. I’m willing to bet it’s not going to be better than a stock Tacoma which mine was prior and was still underwhelming.

    2. my Tacoma has been my favorite vehicle I’ve owned. It’s the one I’ve kept the longest and fought the hardest to keep. But it’s increasingly becoming inadequate

To put it in perspective, my brother has a 4Runner and like most he added mods and lifted it. It felt much slower afterwards, so he added a supercharger and it helped some. Still want what he had hoped for. He drove his buddy's before and and after a regear and he said he the regear made a way bigger difference than the supercharger.

Mechanical advantage is a hell of a thing.

    hand calculated at 11-12 mpg

There’s a clear difference in arguing vs voicing an opinion and concerns. This is an online forum, you can’t possibly tell if I’m arguing or conversing.

I do not have any of the stock parts to return it to stock. It is going to cost quite a bit to do so and my truck was already stock at one time, it was still vastly underwhelming. As I get older my desire to modify is dwindling.

Even in factory form the Tacoma was underwhelming. I’ve never expected it to be great at towing. But asking it to tow half its designed capacity and it struggling is not doing it for me.
I believe I have it priced very well. I’ve only listed it 2k above what I’ve been offered on trade and that’s because of the trade in savings I would get on taxes
