Not sure about your local regulations, but you may want to look into it. Decks can be deadly if not built right and secured properly. You probably won't have to have frost footings etc, but securing it to the house correctly etc likely has some local regulations.

    Sorry. That just sucks.

We had water damaged from fridge, I noticed it July 11th last year. It took a month to even get a quote. Finally got 2 guys to start in August. New flooring in 90% of our house, some fireplace work, paint. They finished in mid February. 6 months.....our house is not big (1600sq ft). Nobody cares. They'd show up at 8am (if at all), go to Lowes, stop and get breakfast, come back around 10:30, lunch at noon, quit before 3pm everyday. But we couldn't tell them to leave because they were the only people that showed up at all. I talked to no less than 6 people for quotes. One guy came on a Wednesday, said he'd have a quote for me by Saturday, then called with the quote 3 weeks later. I told him I'd get back to him by Saturday.

    But we're finally finished:)

They run black almost every Monday, knowing that helps me prepare. I have the mini bush hog ready for paint, no telling when they will run red. They are painting that black for me now

The owner is also in Italy for 9 days for spring break with his wife and kids :spending:

Seriously, just take some pics of where you want it to go, what you want it to look like and let the gang here have a crack at helping from around the country. Of course figure out what local codes, building permits, etc., are first. Then try sharing here I find it hard to believe that you will not look back at the process and say "It wasn't a big deal at all."

I might even suggest starting a thread here on the project. That will make it easier for everyone to follow and chime in if they want. Sounds like fun to me!

And, by the way, Lowe's and Home Depot have online deck building sections of their web site that will aid in your design and material choices as they will give you an estimate based upon your specifications. You can get a rough idea of cost depending if you want to go with 4" posts, 6" posts, cedar, PT, composite decking, different railing systems, etc,.

Considering your attention to detail, the quality of the work you do and your access to the "right tools", I really can't imagine the project turning out great!

We've been messing with the Lowe's deck website, going to put a tape on it today so the wife can draw it the way she wants it. I'm a visual guy, if she draws it I'll do my best to make it happen. We're definitely not going composite :spending::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Still doesn’t explain just how she can see the monitor screen thru the tape. Women are amazing….they can do that. :)

Moments after my new winter tires were installed, I proceeded to try to back up out of the Costco lot right into a car painted parking lot mud that snuck in behind me. Not a lot of damage but it was an interesting conversation with insurance about if I qualify for the Snow Tire discount. :frusty:
She did mention if I had a child seat it would have to be discarded as it was in a vehicle sustaining collision o_O

I have my own deck that I have to build...at one point. So I was playing around on one of the two web sites. It is definitely more money but you should never need to replace it and it will only get more expensive in the future. Buy once, cry once?

True story.....was talking to a guy yesterday about gardens, he said he planted some tomato seeds and they were coming up. I said do you have a greenhouse? He said no, my house is brick
