A good shop will clean it in a parts washer, tear it down, inspect it, and repaint it for less than $200 out the door near me - I don’t know why that wouldn’t be worth it for most people.

Well, a few reasons for me: bigger tires, adding weight, boneheaded wheeling, etc. I also upgraded my steering pump to the JD fab Howe pump, the pressure from the pump magnified the leak. I also had water in the rack. Seals blew from that per the shop.

Nice I’ve been eyeing that Howe pump. Can you try and post here if it happens to blow out the rack seals again, it may sway whether or not I pick up that Howe kit.
But I mighta not phrased that question properly. I just meant if there was any specific speciality tools that were required. But it doesn’t sound like there is.

Ive had the JDFab howe steering for over 2.5 years with 0 issues. I did install it with a brand new OEM rack and I wheel the shit out of my truck.

that might be awhile or it may never even happen again. Got water inside the rack because I didn’t have boots on and did several water crossings. The leak from the rack wasn’t bad it was just a slow leak.

FYI doing a seal kit on a tundra rack is very straight forward and easy. Here’s the seal kit I used costs about $30, I’d definitely keep one on hand if you've upgraded to a tundra steering rack.

It really doesn’t matter, anywhere online. As long as it for a 2007 or newer tundra, summit racing has the lowest prices Amazon has them more expensive but faster shipping.

Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere in this thread, but what about retrofitting/designing a steering system with a recirculating ball/jackscrew system. It wouldn’t be a drop in mod, but potentially something could be designed that is cheaper than tundra rack swap. Sure the front end would probably flop around in death wobble like jeeps do;), but it would be easy to retrofit a steering damper on that type of setup. Has anyone done this? Any obvious issues that would prevent that?

Anyone have experience with the ALLPRO LC200 rack and JD fab LT kit on a 3rd Gen Tacoma?
