2023 Tacoma Driver Side Fromt Door Backorser

Hit a deer about a week ago. 8,000 worth of damage which you guessed it, included a damaged driver side front door. And the thing is back ordered from Toyota. According to my collision shop….they have no idea when they are going to be able to ge their hands on one. My Tacoma is my daily driver. This situation really just blows my mind. Any suggestions and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

I would assume your insurance company would provide you with a rental?

 

Have them look into "skinning" the door, if the shell and intrusion beam are not too damaged. Or look for a nice clean used low mileage door. Otherwise you just have to wait. Since Covid part procurement in the collision repair industry has been hit or miss. Ski

 

Depends on your insurance coverage. They wont just give you a rental, unless you have the coverage. Then it is usually a max of 30 days, and wont extend due to parts availability issues. Again, all this changed with covid supply chain issues. Ski

 

30 days would still get you pretty far.

Try to hit up family members with extra cars. In our family, that’s me.

Get a junkyard door.

Otherwise, try to find a really shitty used car for a few hundred bucks and drive that.

How about a used door? Whether new or used, they are still gonna have to paint it and replace the necessary trim bits.

They might. Talk to them.

 

You generally have the option to take a cash payment from the insurance company and then do whatever you want with it, eg buy a used door and pocket the rest.

The insurance company is on the hook for compensating you the fair market value of the repair or the vehicle, whichever is lower. What you do with that compensation is up to you.

 

covid is still affecting supply chain. And of course, Toyota is probably wanting to sell more 4th gens. How do you do it? Artificially reduce parts availability. Genius.

Your collision shop probably works with LKQ or other recycled parts vendors in order to locate parts that are not available new from an OEM manufacturer. Happens all the time.

Get it back and drive it while waiting on parts
If the door isn’t operational, go in through the passenger door, or get the cheapest working one in any color from a junkyard

Backorser is probably related to the Canadian champion skater Brian Orser. This must be a Canadian truck issue.

I think personally I would look for a door from copart or even eBay. Good luck!
