I got some quotes from a local shop for the rack and LCAs. Labor for the rack seems reasonable, but I’m not sure where they’re getting $900 for the part unless they’re buying from the local dealer (I doubt they’re using OEM though). You can get them for $500 all day on Olathe Toyota.

And how are they getting nearly $900 in labor for the LCAs? I guess I’m going to Conway since the guy down there quoted me less than half the price for labor and will let me bring the parts myself.

I thought of that. Interest rates would probably be crazy even if I could get approved though. I guess they could use the vehicle as collateral, but I still think it would be a nonstarter with my lack of substantial credit history.

I wish I had planned ahead enough to make it out.. Didn't even give it a second thought until the hype started building in the past month and now I feel I'll be missing out. Was already too late at that point.
At least we'll get like 65% eclipse here in AZ..
Maybe I'll book some reservations for 2045 here soon..

You had a decent quote, from a shop you spoke with that agreed to use your OEM supplied rack

You bailing on them and asking the same question over and over to other people like you do here?

I got a better quote from a guy in Conway, but then I’d have to drive down there and potentially stay overnight. I did have another decent quote from a shop down the road for the rack, but not the LCAs. I didn’t realise the arms booked so many hours. Also a lot of the shops I’ve talked to seem to think the LBJs have to be replaced along with them even though I know that’s not the case.

They usually sell everything for the full MSRP, even when they’re pretty much always on sale on Olathe/Ourisman/Decatur Toyota.

well, I'd expect the local shop to pay full MSRP for the rack listed as shown in the quote because it's what's available immediately in BFE from the closest Toyota dealer

they're not gonna shop around and order parts from 3 different online dealers lmao

I guess so. It’s really not hard though. It took me like 5 minutes to find and order the Moog LCAs at less than half the price they quoted. It’s not like Olathe Toyota is some obscure dark-web source either. It’s one of the first results on google, and is only a 3 hour drive from here to boot. I could almost go pick up some parts in my day off and save the shipping.

I have a feeling the 6 hour round trip drive will cost more than the shipping

Interest rate would likely be >13%. Non issue if you sold the tacoma quickly and put that towards the loan. Leaving very little to pay off if anything. So interest would almost be irrelevant at that point. A bit irresponsible? Yes, of course. But ive done it and many others. Gets a guy out of a pinch if need be. But you need to have credit history and very good credit.

You are completely ignoring the huge fact that shops have business accounts with local businesses. If you leave your truck with said shop, they call their go-tos and inquire about the parts you require replacing.

The parts then get dropped off (or picked up) by an employee or even the owner and work begins once everything is on hand.

The shop can't be keeping track of ordering different parts for many different customers from many different sources as it'll be a tracking nightmare especially for tax reasons. Profit and loss, expenses, etc are all part of running a business and everything needs to be accounted for.

Several of us gave him excellent credit advice

After his comments, I fear he will absolutely run up a card to its max if he had the chance :bananadead:
