Manual transmission(R150F) help

That makes me feel a little better but i just feel kinda silly driving around a car that sounds like it’s supercharged when it’s not actually supercharged…

 

The ecu isnt actually aware of whether the trans is installed, just of the neutral safety switch. Assuming you put one in when you manual swapped. Should be able to run on the lift/in the driveway without the trans in. Correct me if im wrong, ive never messed with trans wiring on these trucks beyond reverse light sensors! Making assumptions based on my exp w rwd volvos.

 

Makes sense, the bigger problem is that the starter bolts up to the bell housing…

That's my truck, a very reputable transmission shop pulled my transmission out and replaced everything multiple times until they finally found what it was. Given I have a w59 I believe it's probably the same issue as yours?

want me to contact the shop? I can't remember exactly what it was

 

I know the feeling, i’ve probably opened this transmission up 3 times trying fix the problem. that would be GREAT if you could find out what they did to fix it. is your truck a v6? if it’s a v6 i think you have the same R150F transmission as me. thank you so much

 

No its a 2.7L 4cyl, I called the shop, the owner remembered my transmission and was horrified it had more issues hahaha. The mechanic who fixed it wont be in until tomorrow morning and he will call me.

All I can remember is: the previous owner told me the carrier bearing on the driveshaft broke and the driveshaft spun around and left a big dent under the truck bed. The transmission mechanic said that incident probably shocked and bent the part inside the transmission that was making that noise.

 

I want to say it was called a main shaft?

 

Output shaft?

 

Input shaft has bearings, counter shaft has bearings. Were they all replaced? What your describing really sounds like an internal bearing problem. When you push the clutch in at idle, everything stops spinning inside the trans, so the noise goes away

 

hopefully it’s the lower one (i think it’s called the countershaft) with less of the gears and bearings pressed on to it. if you could find out for sure that would be so helpful!

I do know they replaced every bearing possible inside and out. Two
Times in fact

 

were you able to find out what your mechanic replaced?

 

I called, spoke to the mechanic through the shop owner, they didn't seem to keen on giving me much more information. I told them I was trying to help someone online and they kinda scoffed haha. He just mentioned it was the main shaft that held all the gears was skewed a few mm over the entire length.

 

Dang. so close. well there’s only 2 shafts that go in the transmission, they both have gears on them but i’m assuming(hoping) he’s talking about the lower one. It would make sense for it to be the lower one since the only quiet gear, 4th, doesn’t use it.

 

Replace the Input and Cluster gear and the noise will go away.

 

You seem pretty confident, can you elaborate please? or are you just telling me to throw more parts in hopes of it fixing it. Because i don’t know what an input gear or cluster gear is.
