I understand you don’t have a Toyota dealership in your city. However, I learned many years ago, never get brand a serviced at dealer B, it always ends up in a nightmare.

Out of the $700 I only had to pay $272. Which is, as my partner pointed out, the labor + 5% tax.

I can't help but wonder if the numbers would have been any different without the coverage. At least I am glad I didn't have to pay $700 out of pocket for this.

We have one independent shop in town which I will be going to for anything that I cannot do myself or wouldn't be covered by warranty. But yeah when I lived in a bigger city I had a great local mechanic, I don't usually go to these dealerships.

You should see some o-ring prices on business aircraft.

Imagine what Boeing pays for an o ring… for it to fall off.

I recall needing some bolts for a 90's Chev 2500 to attach the front wheel bearings. They were a metric SHCS, grade 12 or something like that. They were STUPID expensive from the dealership, but I bought a box of way more than I needed from Fastenal for significantly less money. I probably could have sold the remainder for a net profit, but ended up giving them to a mechanic buddy instead.

Moral of the story is to do some research and try to find an equivalent product that isn't in a fancy plastic bag with a car company logo on it.

Meh… “We had it out so might as well replace it” mentality.

Reminds me of when the dealership was trying to sell me on the extended warranty and telling me it cost $700 to do a brake job. Ive been doing brakes for all my vehicles for 10+ years i know what parts cost lol
