Okay guys I need another phone a friend on this one. Remember that I had to switch the GX460 window regulator motors from left to right and vice versa to make them fit on the to window regulator. Well the problem now is that the master driver window switch lowers the right window with the left switch and vice versa. Additionally the switches are inverted, up is down and down is up. Not good, I need suggestions.

The trouble is that I could invert the wires coming off of the window switch but the body ecu communicates via CAN network to the window regulators. I seems that the window regulators have their own individual bit signal that identifies them as right or left.

Looks like they operate on a LIN bus, quite a complex setup just for power windows.

Based on what I can see on the wiring diagram and the description of the system I have to assume each window motor is hard coded with it's position on the truck and the Master Switch sends commands out on the LIN Bus that tell each motor what to do, since they (the motors) are on opposite sides from where they belong they won't operate properly.

If you could somehow swap just the electronics and/or motors from side to side (if that's possible?) that should correct your problem.

I agree with you on the complex part. First this that came to my mind was to swap the electronics, they are detachable to but appear to be side specific. I am going to look at lx570 window regulator.

    Will the complete motors swap?

Looks like those are even more complex than the GX460.

It will but it is upside down and doesn't line up with the hole on the door. Before I got hacking up the door, I just wanted to see if there is anything off the shelf that could solve this issue.

The 2016 Tacoma withe jam protection appears to use the same setup and connectors for the front window motors, whether or not they will work with the Lexus system I couldn't tell you.

Hmm that makes me wonder. The gx460 front window motors bolted right in. I wonder it those would work on the back window. I am going to take my front motor off and try it on the rear regulator.

Okay so front motors are a bust although they do work with the window switch at the door, they don't work with the master switch as intended. It communicates the command via LIN network finds the motor and rolls down the right rear window when you pushed the front right window. Then I thought what if I just change the rear electronics onto the front window motor and same problem. That tells me the worm gear is not reversed in there, it seems that the polarity of the motor is changed by the computer of the motor. Anyway, I guess I'll hole saw a new hole with these window regulators mounted upside-down relative to the Tacoma.

I will tell you what I really like about this Lexus window regulator system. When the auto up or down switch is pressed, they start slow, speed up to really fast and slow down before closing. That is really nice and feels high end.

This is due to Lexus focusing their car designs around omotenashi which roughly means "hospitality". The windows mimic the culturally proper way to open and close a tea house door in order to provide the least amount of distraction to other patrons inside. This focus extends throughout the build and design process on their vehicles. Doors have a very particular amount of sound deadening to not only block outside noise while driving, but also to cause the sound the door makes when it is closed to resonate at a certain frequency that is considered to be the least offensive. Malcom Gladwell did an episode of his Go and See podcast about Omotenashi and 5 other episodes about Lexus which are an interesting listen.

That is very cool, I will check it out. The good news is that the window motor mounted upside-down does clear the door stop/dampener. I would've been in trouble if it didn't.

This is something I might have to do to mine to be more comfortable in the truck. Never understood why electronic adjustable columns were kept away for such a cheap long whole unit system. I need to bring the column closer and hope to make power off a trigger to go to Forward and tilt up. Then memory back to the last position.

I wonder if this truck has been painted yet……

I do hope it’s not just sitting, waiting to be finished….
