I’ve got a 1944 carbine and it’s such a fun little gun. That being said, I don’t know that I’d want to carry it into war

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
My advice to new gun owners is to practice as much as you can afford to, get involved in some kind of action pistol league where you're shooting on the move and not just at static targets, and don't marry yourself to just one gun - try as many as you can to see what works best for you and your body. Every model gun has a different feel and some you'll shoot more naturally than others. I have some expensive shit and I have a $300 Canik with iron sights that just absolutely hits dead on at 40 yds that I can't do the same at 20 yds with a $1,500 modified handgun. Don't be afraid to trade, try and sell. I've been down the rabbit hole of throwing good money at a bad gun and sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't. When it comes to guns, I really feel you have to try to keep emotion out of it and be as pragmatic as possible - which can be hard to do sometimes since we fall into the whole what the heart wants the heart gets mentality so easily. Anyway...just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure how I keep giving people the idea of not owning guns before. While it's true I only own a couple of long guns that I use for hunting I've had friends that one could consider "gun nuts" that owned many different weapons that I've had the pleasure of shooting. As to pistols and concealed carry I never had a reason for it living in mostly rural communities and small towns. But now, watching the world come apart at the seams I've had to rethink that.

I owned an XD Defender series before this vp9, it was okay but being left-handed it was somewhat difficult to manipulate. Needing a ambidextrous pistol limits your options. My first option would have been a Hellcat, but not ambidextrous. Of the guns that are the VP is what I chose and I'm not sorry, I like the weapon. I gave my Defender to the kid, and now he's went and bought a Mete and is contemplating other purchases, so he looks to be well on his way to taking your advice to hart.

Man firearms are tricky if you’re not right handed, right eye dominant. I’d imagine that lefties are in the same boat.

I’m left eye dominant and right handed so training with a handgun to be pretty damn efficient has taken years to require my brain to have both eyes open and my non dominant eye knowing when it’s his turn to take control of the sight picture.

main reason I didn’t jump over to shoot lefty is because of exactly what you’ve experienced, the firearm market doesn’t have many options and those that exist typically require special order or higher end (meaning more $$$) to have a lefty friendly weapon

    Lefty here

Nope, only thing that sucks is finding lefty holsters. Always have to special order and some less common combinations are not available.

I use my middle or index finger to hit the mag release and use the slingshot method for the slide release.

Even rifles it doesn't matter for the most part except bolt actions.

People make too big a fuss over ambi everything. I've never run left handed anything except bolt actions and my sporting shotguns (stock fit).

Id second that. Event he couple "ambi" pistols i do own, I still use my left index more than my thumb for the controls.

Only ones I dont like shooting are bullpups set up for right handed lol

Bought my first gun. M&P Shield 9 Plus. 75 rounds of 9mm, 25 hollow point for home defense and 50 for the range. I'll be stocking up as I come across some more deals. And I have some mag grip extensions and a Streamlight TLR-6 on the way. Hopefully planning on having a shotgun and rifle by end of year.

In the long run, you will be much better off shooting with the hand that corresponds to the dominant eye - both pistol and rifle.

You’re not the boss of me :anonymous:

also it’s something that I’ve worked on so extensively that it’s a fraction of a second for the adjustment.

I also play golf cross handed. I’m a walking cluster fuck

My old man shoots right handed and is left eye dominant. Yeah. It can be challenging.
