I use a cash back credit card for most everything except things I would like to make somewhat difficult to track. CC interest rates are unbelievable. My belief is that the rates are so high for two reasons, one, because they can and, two, they have to recover loses from those who should not have had cards issued in the first place i.e., people who default or bankrupt.
My daughter had a fear of the lure of easy credit from when she was a little girl. Her beloved father once practiced bankruptcy law and then became a family law judge who, at least once a week, had a couple of tales involving lives derailed by debt. She didn't get one until she was twenty-six with worthwhile employment - I did something right.

:rain: :pccoffee:  :rain: sixtys/wannabes/borrowers. Another downright drenching day here. Weather service finally issued a flood watch, a day late in my opinion.

I'm enjoying the credit card usage discussion. We opt for the cash back cards, but they've changed it to "points" and let us use it on the fly now. Not sure if I can wrap my head around why they did that. A point is a penny, and points accumulate just like the pennies did, so the only thing I can figure is that it lets them keep less money 'floating' (waiting to be used) on their books.

When my now-wife and I first established a household I had the darnedest time getting her to charge groceries to the credit card; she wanted to write a check! "You don't CHARGE food!" she'd cry. "But Discover gives us 1% back, so as long as we pay the full amount every month it's like getting free money!" I'd counter. Eventually she relented, her 'Scotch pride' getting the better of her mother's outdated teachings.

Speaking of credit, one thing that baffles me is that our credit rating gets nicked because we don't make regular monthly payments, such as loan or mortgage repayments. Credit agencies claim that making such payments on time shows reliability and therefore greater creditworthiness. But we DO make regular monthly payments, and on time too; a whole bunch of them in fact. Utility/cable/phone bills, credit card bills, you name it, we pay it. On time. Every month. The difference is that those payments don't have anyone collecting interest at the other end. Makes me think the whole credit rating thing is an elaborate trick to get people to borrow money.

It's crazy what the insurance companies will total and pay for with hail damage. I bought a camping trailer from the Copart auction site for a couple of thousand dollars and had trouble finding the hail damage. A brand new trailer, totaled for damage that was so slight I had a hard time finding it. Used the trailer for a couple of years and sold it for 10K. I had a car with about five dings and they gave me a big chunk of money, sold the car with the damage that I had to point out to the buyer or he'd never have noticed it, and the person that bought it had further hail damage and the car was paid for by his insurer as if it had been totaled. It's crazy... and this is why our insurance rates are so high.

Per the CC discussion. The 2% back pays for my property taxes.

Got back from my wellness check out today got my 3 words sunrise, banana and chair. Had to draw a clock 10 after 11 . While we were talking the nurse couldn't remember the centimeter hight number so she put down 5'2" I'm 5'9" talk about cognitive test. For a 45ish person. one of our friends went to the Dr concerning a memory issue and they put him on a dusk to dawn driving restriction for a self check up. The state monitors that for 2 years now.:boom: talk about f-ing yourself.

Interesting you mention the clock test. Most people don’t know this but the clock is a simple test for diagnosing Alzheimer’s, even in very early stages. If you give a person with even mild Alzheimer’s a picture of a clock and tell them to draw the hands to show a certain time, like in your case 11:10, they simply cannot do it.

Surprise surprise, we're running on generator power. This is a true nor'easter now, winds are really high and more rain is on the way.

    Afternoon all:

Also find it interesting about the clock test.

So far so good here, power went off earlier for about 5 seconds but that's it, it's a bit breezy and still raining and I'm now hearing thunder, hopefully we'll just end up with just a drenching and no storm damage.

    Don't bet on it...

We're visiting my daughter... who is 5'4" and the same height as my wife... except that when they stand next to each other my wife is noticeably shorter than my daughter. First time we've noticed. She's lost about an inch and a half in the last year. Now I'm wondering if I've lost some height, so will have to measure.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...

edit: Power finally was back on at 5:42, house was down to 61*.

I used to be 5'10 3/4" now 5'9 1/4" so my wife was 4'10" now she's 4'8 1/2" so we have both shrank about the same amount. On a side note if we lived in MN she could get a handicap sticker because in that state anyone under 4'10" qualifies as a dwarf you are over 21. That pissed her off.

I own two digital watches, I might purchase a third this September depending on the monitoring systems of the watch, and I gravitate to the analog watch faces. There is something soothing to see the hour, minute, and second hands.

Good morning. A few posts about getting shorter, gravity is a bitz, also why a lot of us seniors have back issues. Off to the gym then grocery shopping. Slow day.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Off for exciting morning of haircut and erranding. I just worked on the ghost BT-13 wing tanks again, not exciting. But, TAB was out for a pilot workout, before heading out to Alabama for a show. I got a nice clip I will put up later.
