Well, the Arai XD-4 is being replaced by the XD-5. I've been waiting to see what the next generation would bring to the table, and I gotta say I'm disappointed. Just not a fan of the looks, the shape of the visor (not the peak), or the huge bump in price.

After seeing the price and the looks I started toying with the idea of getting another XD-4 as a backup helmet, and I just pulled the trigger tonight. They are on clearance on some sites, so I figured I'd snag one. Also got a dark smoke and a light smoke antifog shield so I can try those out, and tossed in some Alpinestars Tech 7 boots. Hoping the boots fit, because I hate returning stuff. :fingerscrossed:

Okay, this is super out of the blue and against my better financial judgement, but does anyone know of a motorcycle shipper that is reliable about not damaging bikes that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

I found an absolute steal of a deal, but it's over on the west coast. I don't want to drag a trailer that far, and I don't feel up to a fly and ride with the shit weather that is all around my area for the foreseeable future.

***EDIT*** I also want to pick the brains of the more experienced gurus in here. Am I nuts to consider buying a 2016 Super Tenere without the electronic suspension that hasn't really been ridden? What stuff should I get checked out before I commit to something like this? I can't exactly pop over to California to see it and check things, but I might be able to arrange for it to be gone through by a dealership, though that definitely increases the cost.

Would help to know what bike we're talking about. Perhaps you mentioned it already but I'm not feeling like going back multiple pages to find it.

Motorcyclegear.com had the best selection, so for the ones I was interested in they were the only option I found. 90% sure they were the better price, or at least on par.

It's a 2016 Super Tenere without the electronic suspension. Edited previous post for those that haven't read it yet.

Not sure about shippers as I've never dealt with one personally. We're getting closer by the day to decent weather so the fly and ride might still be the most economical. You could always work out a purchase deal with the dealership that would include them storing it for a defined time frame until you can get it. I know several years ago when I still worked for a dealership we had one deal where a lady was buying a new bike for her husband as a 50th birthday present and in order to get her the bike she wanted we had to get it and hang onto it for a couple of months. You're closer to Cali than I am....

No idea on price, but I used to know the owner years ago when he was a local racer. Good guy, genuinely cares

In passing they look similar. Pop up the video on Revzilla and Spurge points out some of the differences.

He was a aerospace engineer got burned out, would be trips back and forth from Huntington Beach to up here hauling his buddies bikes and such. Ended up becoming the #1 rated motorcycle shipper in like a year, now has a whole fleet. Was cool to see. Just a dude with a f350 and a trailer. I remember back when he started he delivered some dirt bikes to Nicky Hayden and how stoked he was. The owner, Tim, was always super kind to new track riders and would organize "taatw of the track" sessions at lunch on race days, street riders would be allowed to run a session with a volunteer racer for like $20.
