35 pounds is not that heavy, my wife has an older Juliana aluminum frame that weighs 35 pounds. My relatively new tallboy weighs about 30 pounds because it’s carbon. I can live with that.

Plus, I’d mostly save electric assist for when my fat ass runs out of steam on hills towards the end of the ride.

My Firebird with pedals and Cush core pro front and rear with DD tires is gonna be about 34 35 pounds and that’s a carbon frame. And that’s my only bike I’ll have.

do those electric motors add any drag when pedaling them if the battery is 100% dead? Like if it’s so dead to the point there’s no juice to activate a clutch type mechanism to let the cranks free spin?

The Bosch system on our cargo bike definitely adds a lot of drag if the pedal assist is off. That bike is miserable to pedal if the battery dies, but it weighs about 65-70lbs without human cargo.

Well I ended up ordering some. Went with the DH due to the faster drying synthetic outer and chose the size recommended with the Specialized fit calculator and backed up by the Backcountry gear head. I got them and the fit is...strange. I think probably just too small, but while they feel too small everywhere (length and width) it's also hard to get any kind of heel lock. They are incredibly stiff and having a half size too small probably doesn't help, but I still think I'd rather have the stiffer sole and keep the fast drying exterior. I think I'm going to return them and order a DH and Roost in size 44 vs 43.5 (I normally wear a 10 in about everything including Five Ten shoes).

Reno is on winter #4 right now. 35 degrees and misting as I type this. Pedals get here tomorrow then I’ll at least get baseline setup for first rides when things dry up again and warm up

Told you them mofos were stiff. I think they're more for pedaling than walking but they should break in some? I have a few trail rides in the Roosts and couldn't be happier. The rubber is super grippy, no tingly foot otherwise.

Did you go from this guide? https://www.specialized.com/us/en/size-guide Says mine were a 12.25 which was spot on for me. My 12.5 510s are significantly looser fitting.

Got a good shake down run on the Spur. What an excellent bike so far, begs you to fit in that extra pedal stroke.

You weren't kidding! They would probably be fine with the right fit, but seem stiffer than necessary for my needs and could potentially be pretty clunky when off the bike on the trail. I used that size chart (43.5 = 10.25 and I normally wear a 10), had a recommendation via chat for that size, and they have a tool on the page for the shoe where you can enter your actual foot measurements (which I know from ski boot fitting). Actually, the fit reminded me more of a performance fit ski boot. Very snug with very little wiggle room but likely better for the ultimate performance of translating movements from rider to pedals, but I'd be worried about tingling and just the overall feeling of a too-snug fit. Backcountry sent me a free return and I ordered a size up Roost and DH to try out. Hopefully they work because you can't beat the price!

I had that happen with a pair of pearl izumi x-alp or something like that. ordered the size that would be correct based on size chart, which I believe was actually bigger than my shimano size for comparison and they were still too small. so odd haha

Are you going to ride wrap that ti frame? Can't decide on mine. I know the ti frames usually buff out with a Brillo pad but some of the etched in work is so gorgeous I don't think that would apply if that got scratched

I am not going to wrap it. Scotch-Brite pad will take care of most everything. I may put one of those thicker down tube protectors on it just because I dented my steel Honzo a month ago by kicking up a rock...

Well, I ended up ordering through Colorado Cyclist. I asked on here if they were legit because the price of what I was looking at seemed low, not outrageously so, but low enough to get my attention. Turns out, the kit was missing a major component and, without it, it wasn't a good deal anymore. I reached out, explained it was misleading the way it was described and they agreed, apologized and are paying the return shipping. All in all, bummed I'm not getting the upgrades, but at least they took care of it.
