I didn't know even that was an option, I thought you could only get a new key cut by Toyota from the vin. I will definitely be doing that soon

home depot, lowes, and wal-mart also cut auto keys. first gen keys don't have chips that need to be reprogrammed so it's a pretty painless thing to get a cut.
Though like i said i'd stick to hardware stores as they tend to give more of a fuck about the property of their customers.

it def potentially is. My key can turn my doors and ignition but I had to get a key cut from my vin to actually turn off the airbag in the dash. And that key will go into the ignition but can’t turn it.

Wasn’t too bad with the right tools. Tried last night without a pitman puller just a hammer, that was a failure.

Thanks for the Ebay link to Toyota original keys! Just ordered myself 2 keys. Beats the damaged ones I've been using.

    Good riddance.

I don't know what I was doing wrong but J59s with a regular cab was too much spring.

Not the most exciting mod but new tires for my 1st gen today! PO had put on some ling longs that were way too small. Went back to the factory size of 265/75R15 in Toyo Open Country A/T3. IMG_4300.jpg

Got this from another tw member. Stoked to use it this weekend camping. Kinda wished it filled the corners a little better but it’ll do.

    Overthinking out loud...

Since I tinkered with my leaf springs I need new u-bolts. I re-used the bolts for test-driving but I want to put fresh ones on before long. The bolts I have now came with 7/8in nuts (but I use a 22mm socket because most of my tools are metric). They're the only fasteners of that size on the truck. If I remember correctly, the original Toyota u-bolts had 19mm nuts. There are lots of 19mm fasteners on the truck.

The 7/8 fasteners are for a 9/16 u-bolt. I assume the OE bolt was 1/2in (or a comparable metric size). I'm tempted to go back to OE so I can take the 22mm socket out of my tool kit. A 21mm-drive nut would be ideal so I could keep an oversized bolt and use my mid-depth lug nut socket, but it seems that 21mm nuts don't really exist outside of lug nuts. The 19mm standard-depth should do just fine as long as I cut the bolts short enough.

Nope, stay with the 9/16'' U bolts. 1/2'' will bend. At least that's been my experience. And they youll shear your center pin and be up shit creek some where.

    the 9/16 ones I used I think use a 3/4''/19mm nut I thought..

anyone running alignment octagons on a 2-3" lift willing to share photos of your alignment settings? hoping to get a baseline to get me by til I can go out of town for a proper alignment.

tried to get mine aligned but the local guys were mystified and handed my keys back.

wrapped up new LCAs with whiteline bushings, new ball joints, TREs, and alignment octagons...

numbers don't have to be great I just don't want to eat tires running around town or on the road between trail heads.

might have to eyeball it myself and call it good. I can trailer it to the dirt til I can get a 4x4 shop to poke at it

I'd just toss a digital angle finder on it and tape measure align the toe after you get the camber and caster half ass close
