    Does anyone know if aftermarket complete driveshaft assemblies usually come balanced or not? I am finding that the sellers don't know half the time. (1998 Tacoma XCAB DLX 4WD 2.7L)

    02hilux, Good info! I didn't know this. I have to manually lock the two front wheels/hubs before it becomes 4WD...therefore I have a 3wd?

    2wd = 1wd
    4wd = 2wd
    locked rear 4wd = 3wd
    locked front & rear = 4wd

    With the front hubs locked, it is still an open differential in front.

    It actually makes me think about how I answer certain questions when I am searching for parts and they want to know my year, make and model. Do I say choose 4WD or 2WD as my option?

    Though it’s 4wd, it’s not a true 4wd.

    Another question...When I take one hand and twist the driveshaft (front and behind the center support bearing) there is some play. Is that normal? Does that mean anything in regards to my companion flange on either end (to transmission or rear diff)?
