1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I can’t tell how much of this is oil or power steering fluid. I’m not sure where the oil is coming from either - maybe the oil pan gasket? Pretty sure that’s an engine out job. This all makes me wonder if it’s worth spending all those thousands on a rack and driveshaft when I’m still probably gonna have a leaky truck..

 

It's almost 30 years old. Would be more surprising if it wasn't leaking. And they only stop leaking if you work on them if you just leave them alone they'll eventually start leaking.

 

Im just trying to deduce where the oil is coming from. The valve cover gaskets were recently done. The oil pan gasket sounds like a miserable job to do, even for a pro.

 

Oil pan reseal isn't that fun but it's doable in truck. Just pull the diff out and it's actually easy. The hardest part is the diff pull haha. But it's more than likely that the valve cover gaskets were done poorly, see a lot of people do them sloppy or not replace the cam plugs and still have leaks, or could be rear main seal I guess.

 

There's a unique way to finesse the diff out, fuck that

 

It doesn’t sound like something you’d wanna do without a lift. At that point I’d rather rent a cherry puller and reseal the whole engine on a stand.

 

I didn’t see much moisture around the valve covers. No smoke from oil dripping on the exhaust either.

 

You've lived in AR for awhile, why not ask a friend for help? For anything you need help with on the truck?

 

Well that one mechanic in Conway was going to give me quite a deal with the labor. Anything under $100/hr is unheard of nowadays unless you go south of the border.

 

Also you wouldn't be looking for power steering fluid (clear looking)

You'd be looking for ATF when comparing ATF and oil unless you and/or the previous owner put in power steering fluid by mistake

 

Food there is way too spicy for you anyway

There’s a lot of red fluid on the rack yea. There’s also gold/brown drops on the rack and transmisión, cross member, etc., which I assume is engine oil.

 

Don't tell me, I've done it without a lift, you just don't want to do anything.
