Seen one on the road yesterday, ugliest damn thing on four wheels. I could build a sharper truck out of cabinet grade plywood !

326/465 vs 405/430 with the Tacoma torque at 1700 vs 3250 for the Ranger. The Ranger may have a faster 1/4 but the Tacoma will be faster to 60 and "feel" faster around town. Toyota has been doing hybrids since 1997 and I haven't heard of any Tundra hybrid issues. 17 combined vs 23 combined means you'd save 3K over 4 years ($4/gal, 12K/yr).

Estimated MSRP of 63K vs 57K. Ventilated seats are worth at least $500. Not having to get a bedliner is another $500. With the $3K savings in gas you are only 2K apart.

Since the TH is going to compete against the Pro and there is a finite number of Tacoma halo buyers, I think the markups will be less than the R Raptor markups. While some may get an R Raptor at sticker price, most won't. The net costs between the two will be about the same.

They do, and not only that...The Ram 2500's have coils and tow between 14,400-15,600 lbs with a payload of 4,000 lbs.....those pesky coils...

I keep hearing that...and hearing that is the excuse for the Tacoma's lowest in class towing. (or are least lower) has nothing to do with design, just the old limitation of the coil spring...lol

I thought only one guy cared about mid size truck towing but he's gone and yet it continues. Lol

Even if you don't care about towing or payload, it would be nice to have the top of class capabilities for the top of class price.. Or maybe thats just me.

Personally if I were looking at a new truck in the midsize class, I would be paying more attention to payload than the towing number, for me a good midsize trailer weight is no more than about 4K (camper etc) maybe a bit more with a flatbed (lower air resistance). Using those parameters, all their towing numbers are ok. The payload is where some of them start separating themselves for my uses anyway.

And the TRX with 700hp has a payload of 1,310lb.

It's not just spring design, it's spring rate. The spring rate to achieve one objective, better ride and articulation, is not the same rate needed for max payload. Ideally you would have light compliant springs with adjustable air bags for when you need to tow or carry a heavy load.

"Ideally" is subjective with airbags and depending on your usage airbags can be an unreliable source. Personally if building the optimum outdoors truck airbags would not be in my build plan to maximize payload and control under load.

But yes, coil tuning is a thing, a payload package would have been nice to see from Toyota, but they really don't care about things like that at the end of the day.

    Very well stated. Thank you.

What is a "halo" in this context?

    Never heard that one before.

I suspect that anybody who wants a Pro or TH will be able to get one.

Assuming Toyota sells "about" the same number of Tacomas as they usually do, the spread will be some low grade trucks, a lot of mid grade trucks, and some top of the line trucks. With two top of the line trims for the Tacoma ("halo" trucks), the TH will be competing with the Pro. A lot of former Pro owners/people who wanted Pros will now consider the TH. I don't think the dealers are going to be able to play the "they're aren't that many made" card when their halo allocation literally doubled.

Ford dealers have a lot of incentive to markup Raptors - the Bison/Pro/TH are a lot more expensive. Chevy and Toyota dealers have a lot of incentive to sell closer to MSRP knowing the Raptor, even with a markup, is comparably priced.

There are still at least 8 new 2023 Pros for sale, half listed at MSRP the other's call for price.

Toyota clearly states when their cars are limited production, i.e the First Edition Land Cruiser, GR Supra, GR Yaris, etc. The Pro and TH are not limited production but because dealers mark them up, they don't sell a lot. Toyota thinks that's what the market is and they base production on previous year sales.

This. The original pros and bajas were each dealer getting maybe 2. Then Toyota realized they were missing out on sales and ditched the limited production. Just look at the ungodly amount of 2024 Tundra Pros available. They’re not limited just like Raptors aren’t, but still a halo vehicle.
