Depending on how far your trip is. I just had this shop do my alignment today in Mesa and they are proper and know Toyotas in and out. I worked with Justin and looks like they do transmission work too. www.deserttoyshop.com

I agree. Which is why I ditched them 2 years ago.

Man the MVD site kinda sucks, you can't change your existing plate to a custom style as its "already taken"

That's a recent change to alleviate a problem the MVD in AZ had.

We have some 100+ custom plates and they were allowing the same alpha numerics as a different registrant on a different plate.
    Example:
    ASU Plates - ABC123
    NAU Plates - ABC123
    UoA Plates - ABC123
    All three different people.

But the automated license plate readers were having a hard time separating out the three differences. All they really saw was the ABC123. So if the NAU grad had a warrant out for his arrest and a cop scanned your daughters UoA ABC123 plate, she's getting pulled over for probable cause, ID run, possibly detained in cuffs. It was creating an issue.

So they limited it back to one ABC123 in all of AZ regardless of the specialty plate. Which means your registration may be an issue because you have the other ABC123 or because there are already two other ABC123s out there and AZ need two of you to pick again.

    I fixed it fora ya.

Maybe if we just took our rights back and enforced the fact that being in public is not probable cause or reasonable suspicion enough to blanket surveil the public en-masse is illegal for the government to do then we could all pay them for the privilege of having a license plate that we wanted regardless of who has the twin plate.

I think what we are experiencing is anarchy/tyranny

some rules like license plates are enforced
Other rules like having to have a license isn’t

Exactly and now this might be an issue for me too, when I go to transfer my plate over to my custom one. Had it for the past 3.5 years. It also has 7 characters.

Pfft. Just drive around with no plate. When they pull you over, say you're traveling not driving. /s

Transmission randomly started behaving fine. Just going to chalk it up as a Tacoma quirk and feature. Sometimes it feels like I’m in an abusive relationship with this truck but I guess that’s what I’m into. Thanks all for the shop recommendations. Moving on. More upgrayedds, more work, more progress.

Non Taco related, but its for the tow pig F250 I acquired

Long story time .. I had replaced the battery not to long ago and drove it a day or two. It sat parked and i would start it every other day to keep it happy..
Had a few days pass and finally took it to get tires today.. Battery died after I pulled up to the shop and had them jump it so I could get home after the tires got put on. Made it about two miles or so and it sputtered to another death in a QT parking lot. I had though it was fuel related so I topped it off and jumped it again. made it about 40 ft and died again. Towed it home and pulled the alternator and had it tested (after i bought a new one without change). Swapped them back out and put the old one in, recharged the battery back to full and cranked it over. truck starts and run but only under the battery life, Alternator is spinning but not sending charge to the battery. Volt meter show the decline of the battery with the lights on and radio. I'll be chasing wires tomorrow and running more tests with the volt meter.
Anyone have any ideas how to test this system on an old F250?? I have suspicion the cluster is going bad as the fuel level and voltage gauges dont work.. Fuel reads always full which can be bad ground or sending unit. The volt gauge is on the same side of the cluster and has my suspicion. But also the oil pressure and temp are on that side but function??
    Thoughts??

If you see charging volts at the alternator but not battery, I'd bet on a fusible link blown on the alternator cable. Pull it on both ends and check ohms to see if it's open.

@radio1521 needs some help. Yesterday on Elvis something in his rear diff gave up the ghost. I was thinking spider gear but who knows till it's opened up. Fortunately it happened on the last obstacle and we were able to get him off the trail with a few tow strap hookups here and there.

He was asking if there are any shops that are recommended to take the truck to for repair. Specially one that is good with doing gears.

    Tag him with recommendations.

@radio1521 Is the diff locked up or making crunching noises? Has the gear oil been drained to look for excess metal or chunks? I’m mobile so I could possibly come and remove the 3rd member for do a visual inspection. Might be a good excuse to regear too.
