lol!! Thats funny.. Ya we are going to celebrate our 30yr anniversary on June 4th . She is an amazing woman and was the right choice. We have been through a lot of shit together and still love each other more than ever.
Also with me being a procrastinator I said I would start working out tomorrow. I did the opposite and did 5min on the elliptical then 30 min on the treadmill today!! The elliptical was a little hard on my left knee. It will get stronger.

I don't know that there is a better colorway that they've done for the AT. It's such a great looking bike. So much so that I scoured the internet trying to find some kind of shaft drive conversion, because that'd be sweet!

Sorry for the drool on your bike. Just call it a spit shine.:D

As a fellow procrastinator I applaud your initiative! I was hoping you'd say something like that, because it lights the fire and gets things moving! You got this!

Apologies for the long post. It helps me think more clearly to write it all out and review it.

So, I reached out to Motoshippers to get a price from CA to WY, and was told they can ship a bike for $900. Not terrible when I look at the fuel cost for hauling my trailer out and back along with road food and likely at least one night in a hotel if I were to make the trip solo.

The devil on my shoulder (my buddy mentioned before) made a good point though. I could fly down there, check the bike, and then ride it back if I buy. Worst case, if I don't buy then I spend a day in CA and fly back. Likely a similar cost to shipping the bike. Definitely something to ponder, but also a huge jump to do a fly and buy as I've never done a ride of that length.

To pass the time I reached out to a dealership that had a brand new bike listed at $12,795 to get an OTD pricing breakdown. I know there's going to be fees and such that run the price up, but Yamaha has a solid rebate right now and the Super T isn't exactly the most sought after bike. Sales would not be a surprise on a 2023 model that's still at a dealership.

In typical dealership BS fashion I got a generic response asking for a phone number. I ignored the request for my number and asked if my questions regarding the pricing had been received. Again, to this point it was typical and expected because the first response is almost always an automated one. The rep responded to my reiterated request with "I am not authorized to go over number over email" and another request for my phone number. That's was irritating enough that I asked her to forward my request to someone who was authorized to discuss numbers. My irritation persisted and I put a google review in about how the rep wasn't listed anywhere in their meet the staff section and wouldn't answer "how much is it" when asked twice. My guess is it's a chatbot or sourced out to some call center mess overseas where they are just trying to generate leads for the actual sales people.

I expected to be ignored at that point, as a negative review and being persistent usually has a dealer thinking that it's not worth their time. To my surprise, I got a response from one of their internet sales team who is actually on their staff list. The part that wasn't surprising was that a bike that is last year's model with an MSRP of $16,299 with a $1,500 rebate and on sale had an OTD price of $16,829.87. The kicker, only $1,197.84 of that OTD price was taxes. So $15,632.03 would have been my cost because I don't pay taxes at the dealership. I pay them when I register it. Here's a screen shot of the price breakdown from the email where he first gave the retail/non sale price.

    upload_2024-4-7_21-3-58.png

Do that math he has there, and the total is more than what he broke out anyway. I hate scumbag dealerships and scumbag salespeople. As much as I worry about buying a lemon buying used, for a bike I don't think I'll ever buy new again. Dealerships are garbage and hire dishonest scum for sales. It's intentional lying like this that makes us hate them. If direct to consumer purchases ever become a thing, 90% of dealerships will be out of business in 12 months.

This is a single year color on the AT -2017. Im not a huge fan of red, but this does it for me. Or more so than their other red/white.

That red isn't bad, but I think your RW&B is much better.

I like the last sentence in your post the most. And this goes for auto stealerships as well.

It was definitely an all encompassing statement on all dealerships. The reason I say 90% will die is because there are a few that are actually good.

I spent roughly 16 years working part time at a Harley dealership and the stories I could tell.......Sadly, even the good ones get beaten down over the years through the manufacturers themselves, through bad customers who bash you word of mouth or now through social media. Policy changes at the corporate level that the dealer has no say in. Being forced to take certain inventory that you know won't sell in your region, etc. Be cautious too about direct to customer and eliminating dealers because that will have implications as well. I've had dealerships go to bat for me against the manufacturer that really saved my ass.

Not to be rude, but the exception doesn't make the rule. I've had positive dealership experiences as well, but they are not the norm. The best I hope for from a dealership is that it won't make me want to murder someone and won't take all day. It's a low bar, but that's all most of them can hit on their best days.

ive bought a few brand new vehicles and only a couple of vehicles ive not bought at dealers but man do i hate dealers! especially moto dealers... the thing i hate is when they have shit marked waaaay down because it cant sell and then you go in thinking alright this is a great deal! but then when you ask about the bike its marked tf up with other bs fees to make it at least msrp so they make money like dude seriously? i get they need to make money but how can you have a sale and list something at 5k but then with your fees it goes all the way to 7200!?? id rather take the gamble at used instead of new with the prices dealers give out...

Yup. If I were king fot a day it'd be mandatory that all fees be included in the price. Taxes separate as that varies wildly, but no more bait and switch pricing. I hate that shit.

Cleaning the garage up a bit today. Dug this out and ordered a battery for it. 1980 Honda express. I'm gonna post it on Craigslist here. $800 will be my asking price, we'll see. You never see them come up for sale anymore. All original, has new tires and brake shoes. It's time for it to go to a new home.
