Just a fyi snatch straps usually can only do 10 pulls before they lose their stretch. Kinetic ropes will last 100s of pulls as long as you don't damage them.

As long as you use tow straps with a higher breaking force than the kinetic rope you should be fine.

Never use soft shackles on recovery points that don't have rounded edges. And try to avoid using hard shackles to connect ropes together.

Also if you plan on doing this again maybe get a winch damper, it's a very cheap safety investment.

I'd probably say "don't ever use hard shackles to connect ropes together."

It just seems like an unnecessary, dangerous projectile.

I've never done it but have watched experts say as long as you set it up exactly right they are fine, with the bow facing the direction of the pull and the other strap against the pin.
But, yeah, I would only ever do it as an absolute last effort solution.

I guess I wouldn't be as concerned about it in a tow/winch recovery as I would in a kinetic recovery. Good point about setting it up properly!

If both ropes have loops at the end, you might be able to hook them together without a shackle. Getting them apart is the bitch, but I think there's a trick to that.

The whole video has good tips but go to about 1:08 for the trick.

Good to know there's a trick.

Yeah, tough spot for sure. Glad it worked. Next time, you have more to consider. I thought it would be good to have the discussion.

Had a great time! Unfortunately 1 of the guys lost his rear diff on the last obstacle. That was a fun recovery with the Truck in the middle of the obstacle still. But we got him out and off the trail to a lot where AAA picked him and the truck up.

Ouch! Good job getting them out of there.

I guess the obvious fix is a locker, regear, and 35's.

I'm just glad the 4Runner never got the fake Atkinson 3.5.

Are you not interested in the new Tacoma, either?
