New shocks/U bolts

So we've got a 99 tacoma, and we're going to flip the u bolts with the rock stomper u bolt flip kit, and mount the shocks on the top of the bolts because that's just how the kit works, http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamods/rockstomperuboltflip/rockstomper.htm see?

The truck has a 2 inch lift and we're getting new rear shocks too. My question is what shocks should we get for this situation? Preferably 100 bucks or less each, so nothing ridiculous, but some travel would be nice too

 

Remove your old shocks and articulate the suspension in a controlled environment to determine how much compression and extension your particular setup will allow BEFORE you order or buy your shocks.This can be accomplished by parking on a level surface, removing the rear shocks and jacking up one side of your truck until the tire comes off the ground. (Make sure the truck is properly jacked and braced for safety.) Measure the distance from the center of the lower shock mount (on the raised side of the vehicle) to the center of the upper shock mount. This is your extension measurement.Now measure the same distance on the opposite side of the vehicle. Even though you have one side jacked up, the other side is not necessarily fully compressed, so you have to compensate for this. Measure the distance between the lower and upper bump-stops and subtract this distance from the mount-to-mount measurement you just recorded. This will approximate your compression measurement.

 

ok but I can't find compression/extension numbers for anything, so what can I do with these numbers?

 

some sites tell you what their shocks are compressed and extended. the difference in compression/extension measurements is the travel you need. what shocks are you lookin into getting.

 

well I'd like to get some bilsteins because I know how good they are, but it depends on pricing for what we need

all pro's website shows the extended/compressed measurements for the billys,so whenever you get your numbers you can check er out.

cool but how should I measure everything with the u bolt flipped, because we haven't done that yet and I don't want to be running around without dampeners haha

 

just mock it up,see where the mount will be with the flip kit in place and adjust your measurements accordingly

 

The problem is that's what smart people do, and stupid people don't think of that right away haha
