Mopeds where way cool back in the day. Ebikes are replacing them now. Funny thing is these old Honda express have become very collectible. Kinda like the mini trails.

Oh I got out for a ride on Saturday...see below for the results :(

No need to apologize, everyone benefits from a place to vent/share/unload. I'm sure we're all glad to help be that for you. and yes sometimes a stern kick in the ass is exactly whats needed lol.

It's a sad day for me friends. Went out for a ride with several friends on Saturday. OC Cars and Coffee, then rode back down to Julian to hit some canyons and get some pie. Ride went great, until the very last leg home. Buddy of mine asked if we could swap bikes to see what mine rides like. He's been riding longer than me, and drives for work, I've known him for over a year so figured "what the heck, sure". Not even a mile later, he looked down at the gauge cluster to see what gear he was in (not used to GP shift), which was timed perfectly with a van a few cars ahead braking hard. He couldn't stop in time and kissed the steel bumper of an old jeep. No damage to the jeep, but a decent amount to the BMW. Shame because if he'd had a couple more feet he would have had enough space. So light of a hit he didn't even tip over.

So far damage is looking like fairings, headlights, steering stabilizer, intake duct, and the front fairing stay. Most of which was caused by the steel bumper pushing the headlights back. Bike runs fine, and tracks straight. Against my better judgment I did ride it home about 30 miles after pulling the headlights, no issues besides some lessened stability from compromised aero. Gonna be ordering fairings tonight as those will be the longest wait. pics below of the damage. Probably drop it off at my shop later this week to have it all looked over and make sure there isn't more unseen damage.

Not going to be going through insurance, buddy said he will cover all damages/fixes as needed. Owner of the jeep didn't seem to care one bit, just wanted to make sure we were good. All parties involved are okay.

I actually wish you were closer to me as I would consider that. Too far to travel to haul back a $800 bike but around here there are some vintage bike shows and even a vintage Japanese motorcycle event where that thing would really be a hit. GLWS.

Damn, that sucks! Hopefully BMW doesn't hose you too bad on the parts and the lead time isn't too awful.

    minor tweaks
Wait a couple days, It's blowing about 40 and gusting to 55 here,
That sucks and it can happen to anyone. I don't ride my buddy's bikes unless I'm fixing one, mainly because I don't want to be put in that same position and just as importantly I don't need to ride a nicer (newer) bike since I never feel quite the same about mine afterwards.

I think for the fairings I'm going to go for a full aftermarkets set, from everything i'm seeing online BMW no longer sells the painted parts, only unpainted, same with individual pieces from other sellers. So that would be even more lead time and expense. And no luck finding decent used ones online.

For the steering stabilizer, a buddy may have a spare OEM one to donate. Headlights I had aftermarket already, so will likely replace with the same. remainder of the trim parts seem to be relatively cheap

Yeah I refuse to ride other peoples bikes for that reason lol. most people I would have said no, but I know he's a good dude and good for it. Accidents happen, the most annoying part really is the downtime I won't be able to ride it

Are you familiar with Beemer Boneyard? Might be able to score some used stuff from them. Former coworker had a K1100LT

Collectible doesn't mean valuable. You see it all the time, folks dumping thousands in to restore a CT90, CT110, Spree, whatever, and then pricing everything they did to get it back up to mint and trying to get $5k, it sitting for years, when the going rate is $1k. Every once in awhile you'll find someone older with money to burn to try and relive their childhood, but it's a tough market. Everyone and their mother had a ct back in the day.
