Lexus Credit Card Key Working in Tacoma

I love this thread. I have had my key for over a year now at least, with no issues. In case you do not have tech stream like me. I took my Lexus card key and the spare uncut key to a locksmith in town known for working on vehicles and was able to cut the spare key, many shops can not. Well after a nice discussion in the lobby where they said it would never work, I insisted kindly that they try and I would still pay if it did not work. So the manager came out from his office and we went out to the truck where he ran the setup under the Tacoma. It did not work. I asked him to run it under a 2015 Lexus IS250, to which he said there is no way this will work. Well it did. His face was priceless, he had kind of giving me an attitude like I didn't know what I was talking about. But I had this thread as a reference. Side bonus, all the folks at the dealership think I'm some sort of vehicle magician because I have a Lexus key for the tacoma. I get a smile every time.

 

For 21-22 model years, is the new key registration process the same as the process for 2016-2020 model years?

I was trying to add a new key to a 2021 Corolla, and it requires a passcode from a 48 digit seed. So far passcode calculator are only for the immo reset 96 digit seeds and non for the new add key 48 digit seeds.

Wondering if this is also an issue for later model years.

 

Same reaction from my locksmith… I said please use the 2015 IS250… I’ll pay you if it doesn’t work. He was amazed and asked how did I know that??? I attributed Victory and this Web site. My card has been flawless since I did it 4 years ago. Great MoD!

 

Me too… this Mod led me to changing all my house locks to keyless entry. The only key I use is for the lock on the kayak trailer hitch.

 

For the gentlemen who swapped out the Lexus logo, what was underneath it? If its just blank (no screw or writing) that might be the way I go.

 

Yes just blank. I can’t remember if there are little holes in there or not.

Does the vehicle have to be within proximity of the key when the programming is being done??

 

I pried out the Lexus symbol and replaced with a same sized Toyota emblem from @cboy808… worked fine.

So, I checked my key, 2022 TRD Sport, my key is 231451-0010 G. No match for OP. Will check the receiver tonight.

 

Awesome. I've been trying to figure a way to have a low profile access card or device for a while now. This is a great feature to resolve my a "want".
The ordering of the smart card seems pretty much straight forward. I have the info from my OEM FOB but do I need any info from the security module?
Also, has anyone had any experience using the Snap-On ZEUS Scan Tool for programming the smart card? I'm a tech at a Stellantis Dealership (I'm sorry) and work with a tech who has that scan tool. I am very familiar with programming FOBIKS and other options. No P.I.N is required like on the Jeeps, Dogdes, ect? Thanks for the write up and info.

Well, I purchased a smart card directly from a Lexus dealer. I was able to program it with no issues using a Snap-On scan tool. It's awesome. Only I can't keep it in my minimalist tactical wallet. The wallet RF blocker actually works. No biggie.
