The Maxxis's look fantastic! Very eager to hear how your mpg compares to the Grabbers. What made you go with these over a lighter 285, or MT vs AT considering you drive quite a bit?

    Thanks so much man!

It took a lot of research but everyone who runs the Maxxis MT seems to agree they have the best on road manners of any MT tire out there and they are also extremely capable off road. The biggest thing that sold me was the fact that they’re the only mud tire with a tread warranty (40,000 miles).

The other two biggest factors were the reported lack of road noise and good on road wet handling (for a mud tire). They also review as good or better than all the big brand mud tires for off road driving.

With very minimal driving today, just home from the tire shop, they are WAY quieter than my General Grabbers. I literally couldn’t believe it. I would say there is about half the road noise as with my Grabbers at all speeds. Between 30-40mph these are probably twice as quiet as the Grabbers. The Grabbers really roared in that MPH range.

Obviously I will have to do a lot more driving before I can give you guys a better review.

I decided to go with 265’s again because it’s just a lot less money. I don’t need to do any cutting/trimming or CMC. I know it’s a size that works for my adventures and I also already have a full size spare.

These are heavy, at 57 pounds per tire, but I think that if these drive as well as I think they’re going too I might go up to a 285 in the same tire in the future and do a re-gear. I would go through this set first and then probably jump up in size.

We are doing on cross country drive later this year and one trip to Canada, so I wanted to start small lol

So far I’m really pleased and excited to get these out on the road and the trails.

Didn't even know there was an MT tire with a tw warranty, that's a great find... Especially because they're QUIETER??? Must have better designed tread blocks to cancel out some of the noise, really cool engineering there. I've read over and over that the weight doesn't impact mpg nearly as much as a diameter change so I'm hopeful you won't see much ill effect.

Personally I think I'm sold on the discoverer AT3 XLT's in 285/75R16 (54lbs). Appreciate you reminding me of their existence in another thread. Got a quote at a local tire shop for $280/tire including installation + a $100 rebate from Cooper. My wife is going to be very happy when I STFU and finally buy new tires LMAO.

Hahaha my wife literally just told me to stop talking about my new tires. Too funny.

Yeah those XLTs were a huge contender for me, I was just worried about getting a puncture since they’re 2 ply and not 3 ply. I’ll be interested to hear how you like them. I was eyeing the same size too (285).

I was definitely a little concerned about MPGs and braking/acceleration because these weigh the same as the 285 g003’s I used to run and those killlllled my braking, acceleration and mileage. These seem to handle great though. Like you said, size must have a much bigger role than weight in terms of driving performance. I don’t notice any decrease in braking/acceleration over my grabbers so far.
