I heard they were trying to deliver F16s to Ukraine, but it takes forever to train the pilots how to fly them, and they’re incredibly expansive to operate.

 

It's training the pilots, it's training the ground crews, training the maintenance, setting up logistics for supplying parts to maintain the aircraft, there's the different weapon systems that have to be trained, non-nato weapons that need to integrate with the f16... the list goes on and on with what it takes have the f16 operational and battlefield ready. They cost up to $25k per hour they are in the air, that cost is much much more than just the fuel, it's all the extra stuff.

 

TIL about the XF-84 Thunderscreech, an experimental aircraft from the 50s with supersonic propellers that caused hundreds of sonic booms a second - it was the loudest aircraft ever made, so much so that ground crews actually became nauseous from all the noise. The propellers were so powerful that they tried to rotate the aircraft instead of the other way around.

 

Really taken in interest in that aerospace engineering
