I’m in the same HG Hydra driver hunt to run SS. At least without paying full retail. There just aren’t too many options to run single with an XD or MS freebody.

Anyone think the stock fox transfer lever kinda sucks? Wondering if mines setup improperly. Sometimes to get the seat to come back up it feel like I have to push the lever wayyyy far down. All my old levers have had a real short throw with a definitive click feel when it activates

Check the amount of cable housing inside the frame. Sometimes it's excessive which causes binding of the actuator.

My wife is considering a new road bike leaning a bit in the gravel, or at least all-surface, direction. She is a serious lifelong rider. The bike that she is thinking of is configured with SRAM Transmission, specifically an Eagle/Force setup. I know it’s still pretty new, online reports are like for anything new, Internet sites where they got a free drivetrain and are total fanboyz, or conversely folks grumbling about new standards (unique chain for example) and who needs batteries to shift. A few years ago she upgraded her MTB to Eagle and hasn’t been too happy with the shifting; last year she got a new MTB with XT 12 speed and loves it. The brand of road bike she is looking at only offers T type or AXS. No mechanical shifting, nor Shimano. Opinions, preferably based on experience? TIA.

I’m running GX eagle AXS derailleur with rival cranks and force AXS brifters on my gravel bike. I’m satisfied leaning towards very satisfied with my setup. I think the shifting is excellent, I use silca wax on this bike so that is a contributor. Keeping it lubed properly is critical. Setting the shifting is super easy, huge fan of that.

There was that b tension issue we discussed on here a few weeks back but when I went to check it out, There is more play in the regular eagle than eagle axs derailleur. I still need to get some washers to test this out though. Not sure if this applies to road axs

The force axs brakes are solid, no complaints there. I also prefer the hood shape but that’s personal preference. A click is much better than full throw of mechanical in my opinion.

no wires is super nice between cleaning the bike, wrapping the bars, lack of cable stretch and playing with tension.

overall I find it to be the closest to set and forget of all the drivetrains I’ve tried, given I haven’t owned shimano 12spd or AXS transmission.

personally I wouldn’t hesitate to go with either AXS if you’re good with spending the money on it. I will likely go frame only for my next gravel bike and swap everything over.

It depends on which "eagle" is on her MTB. SX is terrible, NX is can be finicky but is ok. GX on up is where the quality starts to become apparent.

If she can test ride them, that would be ideal.

She has GX. She wouldn’t let me install it :) and the LBS (reputable shop) adjusted it a lot but it’s not great. I had installed 11 speed GX on my bike at the time and it was flawless. Of course no bike shop ever touched it. But anyway, my question is about Transmission, not Eagle or even normal AXS. Everyone I know with Eagle GX or better AXS loves it.

Treated myself to a fresh wheelset for the gravel bike. Went with White Industries CLD hubs laced to Rodeo Labs 650b carbon rims with Sapim laser spokes and 2.2 Maxxis Ikon tires.

On a totally non-bike related note. My K02s were worn out and since they suck in the rain, I wanted something better. My other truck as Falken Wildpeak AT3W and I liked those tires in the rain (and NorCal has had a LOT of rain) so I figured the AT4W's would be even better because of the bigger blocks and more siping (Georgia gets more rain than NorCal). Also went a little bit bigger than stock (265/75/16s or basically a 32").

@113tac thanks for the input. Although we’re used to Shimano, I think she’d be fine with the non-T AXS drivetrains. It’s the whole new Transmission thing that has me concerned. Of course it can always be replaced with a non-T drivetrain as this frame is UDH compatible.
