In theory with normal maintenance being done on time they “should” last the lifetime of the vehicle. But there’s no guarantee and alot of variables that can cause them to fail. They’re sometimes replaced unnecessarily as they were misdiagnosed or not correctly diagnosed. But over 100k is an ok lifespan.

2017 TRD Sport. Bought new . 193,000km/ 120,000 miles on the odometer now.A little obsessive about regular maintenance. I had a premium 7 year warrantied ceramic coating put on the paint when new) Opti-coat Pro plus). No real extreme off road stuff except for jobsites and some wonky ass logging and mining roads. 95% Highway driving daily. Truck has run beautifully. Ive had to replace the headlight/turn signal switch and a speaker in drivers door. Had All the recall work done. rear Diff seal,Rear light seal. Fuel pump. i have had a level lift on the truck for 7 years and its caused no issues at all. Had 1 quarter panel replaced after a lady hit me in a parking lot. I have had all my side windows tinted and use a sun shade in summer all the time so no sun beating my interior to shit. Put Weathertech mats in the truck Day 1 which help keep the floor and carpet in great shape and truck gets Krown Rust controlled spray oiled every Fall and i flush the underbody every spring. Every stone chip gets touched up and dealt with quickly.

Only issue that popped up recently was it seems like there's a broken spring in the drivers seat back. I had a bad back last fall and getting in the truck wasnt fun and i kind of fell into the seat and I'm 6'3, 260lbs so I'm not a small light guy either. it was sticking out the back of the seat. Truck goes in next month to get seat cover pulled off and check out what's going on.

Truck burns zero oil. Engine still purrs with no weird sounds. No interior rattles. Dash and interior finishes look good as new.

I have a 2017 sr5 217k miles and the only thing I’ve had wrong was a bad evap purge valve issue, besides that no complaints, I rather the v6 compared to my 4 cylinder I had before it which was a pre runner

100k is a 7 year life span for the "average" driver.
IMO, pretty damn short for a $40k vehicle.

My 1991 has 245k and the original cats.
Considering my age and maybe 2,500 miles per year on the Tacoma, the cats will outlast me.

2019 with 38k miles for me. I think a fuel pump recall and third brake light recall were what was recalled. I haven't really had any issues with it so far.

The maintenance I've had done with is all pretty typical: Tires, oil changes, rear diff fluid (4x2) and power steering drain and fill.

I told my wife I'll be keeping it for a long time. Toyota runs forever. If we get another vehicle we'll add on or get rid of her Camry for something bigger. You know...kids.

I was thinking about this recently. Here the police say to keep your keys near the front door so that when the thieves come to home invade you for your truck, you can easily give them the keys! I'm not kidding, Toronto Police say to do this! The vehicles here that are stolen and shipped to wherever are at an all time high! No doubt!!
Now that I've thought about it some more, I think we have no worries, they have the Hilux in most countries where they ship these stolen cars to. Who would want a Tacoma??:anonymous: Anyway, my Tacoma has been great. Maintenance only. Only 30k kms though. Now I wonder if the Hilux are more reliable than the Tacomas?

I inherently began driving only hondas, then switched over to toyota. My first Toyota was a prius that car was driven to the ground. It was my work tool during the pandemic,I bought it for 3k with 200k miles on the odometer'.Within two years i put another 100k .Until I got the bad news that it was burning oil. Then I sold to Pick a part for 2k.The batter pack was rock solid , and the body had some few dents and scratches. So 300k plus miles and who knows how the previous owners did their maintenance is not bad.Like 3 years back I was los angeles and an uber driver had 800k miles on his prius!

It is a truck, they are supposed to rattle, right? :D

Dad is the 1st owner of a '16 Off-Road now at 265,8xx miles. I just did the rear diff fluid change, oil change, and spark plugs last week. It's been neglected maintenance-wise since day 1 with no major issues/repairs ever.
He drives it a minimum of 500 miles a week for work since he initially got it.

Does he have any gripes about his '16 or is he generally happy with it?

How is the truck's reliability when adding environmental factors?

    - Unsalted vs Salted
    - Dry vs Humid
    - Extreme Temps (AZ or AK) vs Moderate Temps
    - Other factors

I would expect my truck in the Northeast would be more problematic than one in Orange County, CA or AZ, especially as the vehicle gets older.

I can only speak for Salted vs Unsalted.

I live in the snow belt in Southern Ontario, Canada and they use insane amounts of salt here on the roads in winter. They Also use a calcium spray to pre-coat roads before storms. Here you have to have your car oil sprayed every fall ,usually in Late September for me, when its still warm so oil can migrate into crevices. I also flush out the underside in spring to get rid of any salt or sand with salts in it in areas that can cause rust. Keeping on top of stone chips is very important to stop rust bubbles before they start. I also got a 7 year ceramic coating on the paint ( Opti-coat pro plus) to protect it and the coating has kept the truck looking fantastic. With the temperature changes if you dont drive a lot of highway miles more frequent oil changes are needed since your engine doesn't really get to operating temps and evaporate the water or condensation it can get and its best to keep fuel tank filled up and work off the top half of the tank in winter and cold weather to help with condensation. Using a gas line anti freeze once every few weeks helps get water out of the gas tank. I also like to give the truck a good Iron remover treatment and clay-barring in spring to clean it up. A little extra maintenance and the truck will stay in great shape for long time.
