2019 tailgate lock sticks

Think its just gunked up with grit from driving dirt roads…

I tried cleaning it with WD40 and a wire brush and it helped a bit but it still sticks.

Questions is, if I take the lock apart, how hard is it to put back together? Couldn’t find any into on TW about tailgate lock assembly/servicing

I’d use something like carb cleaner, wd40 attracts dirt. Wd40 lithium grease maybe

 

yes, OP avoid using WD40 to lube, use an actual grease. WD40 can work good to clean, but would need grease after all cleaned off.

 

WD40 dries over time and leaves a varnish
I would remove the lock away and clean it. Follow up with silicone spray and lithium grease

 

Bunping this to see if anyone knows about taking the lock apart

 

Use a screwdriver and lightly tap on the end to unseat the C clip. Take off the screw. It appears it has a snap ring of some kind? From there

 

I would not take it apart. Clean really well with brake or carb spray and maybe a brush. Lube with lithium grease.

 

Yeah, even those c clips could be a bitch….
I’d end going to a locksmith with the lock in pieces asking him to put it together for me

 

Idk man, taking it apart is the easy part…

 

Use your camera and take a lot of pictures while you’re taking it apart for reference.

 

Lock cylinders are pretty basic in the end. I think you can take it apart. That clip may get destroyed in the process. But You could always snag a handle from a junkyard to replace it with. They are the same as a tundra. then again. Is it sticky when using the key?

 

Another vote for a hefty dose of carb cleaner and maybe some silicone spray afterwards. I wouldn't take it apart either. If it's completely toasted just replace it.

 

Yeah it’s sticky. I live down a dir road so i think it’s just stuck from grit
