I have an area on the side of my house that I want to do some landscaping on. It's around 100x100 ft. Vertical change is around 30ft. I want to calculate the amount of will I'll need.

Is it possible to rent a theodolite? What other options do I have?

Dummy your cabinets forward of the framed wall their backs would be against , put a 1 sided pocket door on the picture side of the wall that slides into a pocket behind your cabinets , use a jamb extension to cover the existing pocket , make the door whatever size you want and centre it

AO Smith irritated me too. With my new heat pump unit, I paid a guy at work to plumb it all in properly with ProPress fittings since he's a master plumber and even giving him double what he asked for was a steal. It threw an error immediately - couldn't find some sensor - so it would only work with the heating elements, not the heat pump. Called them and they said "oh, you're 4 miles outside of our service area so the only option is for you to bring it back to the store and get another". They wouldn't budge on the 4 mile issue, and I wasn't willing to jump to disconnecting the thing, heaving it back up the bulkhead and into the truck (heat pump units are super heavy and not fun to move), just to get another and have to have some of the plumbing redone again.

I took the control/compressor covers off and eventually found a broken wire. There's no way it could have broken due to transporting it or anything - definitely a QC issue. Spliced the ends back together and it fired right up without errors. It's been running fine for over a year now. When it fails, though, an AO Smith won't be replacing it.

Didn't get a chance to finish my tile before our first kiddo arrived... hopefully I can find some time this weekend to get back into this project. Would really like not to have to shower in our guest bathroom for once!

    upload_2024-4-12_9-13-43.png

These cut tiles are not thin-set in place yet.. waiting until I get the entire first two rows cut and ready.

The primary shower has been ripped out for a year now, and is the second to last remodel project on the list.

I had my master bathroom gutted for a year as well. It was so nice when it was finally done. Sweeter with the long wait.

Not looking to give advice where it’s not wanted but what mud you going with? Large format to say the least, your prep suggests you know what you are doing.

LFT thin set for sure. I actually don't know what I am doing  Worked in the trades through high school, but somehow managed not to do tile work, so tile itself is a new adventure, but pretty handy with everything around tile, so it's not a large leap. Just wish the interior decorator (wife) picked a 3x10 or 4x12 tile rather than the LFT, but once she saw those it was pretty much set. On one hand, lot fewer pieces of tile to install.. on the other, every single one of them needs to be custom cut. :frusty:

I too have an in home interior designer lol well it looks like you are on the right track for sure, if you have homie depot look at custom pro lite. It’ll cost a little more but for your own home and you doing the work you are obviously saving lots already, you need good coverage and it gets heavy.. especially if you need to add a bit more mud to a tile to get things flat and on a plane. Also I’m not trying to get into design or make unwarranted suggestions but do you know about schluter tile edging? Like where you come out on the right hand side to drywall, rather than having exposed factory tile edge you can cap them with a variety of metal edges, to match fixtures, etc.. would consider framing niche the same way, unless you are looking to bevel and polish or something along those lines..

I have a mapei LFT thinset already.

Walls and backer board are plumb. I reframed/shimmed everything out to make the tile installation a no brainer. Just a little flair from the vinyl shower pan liner folds at the very bottom, so just a little less thinset in those corners should take care of that. Also why I wanted to go for at least the first two rows first- in order to use the second row and tile leveling system to pull that bottom row into alignment.

And not pictured in that photo yet, is a length of the black Schulter alloy edge trim for the transition to the drywall. Just trying to wrap my head around how the edge trim plays with the unfinished edge to the curb coming in from the other direction.

For the niche, and other exposed edges, I cut the at 45 and polished the edges... Really not making it easy on myself.

all good things! Like I said you seem to be on the right track and leaps and bounds ahead of most home owner tile jobs, you are correct about not making it easy in some spots lol

is that already a full tile coming out or is it trimmed? Normally I start from bathroom floor not shower pan in layout, then that piece that comes out wraps the curb..

Yes, the "0" is the subfloor not the pan. The "first row" is a little more than 1/2 a tile from the finished floor height outside of the pan. I would have ended up with a 2-3" band somewhere, so I opted to split the top and bottom rows in roughly half + 1/2 the overall delta.
    essentially this:
    upload_2024-4-12_11-58-58.png
    vs this:
    upload_2024-4-12_11-59-59.png

This was also to prevent the niche from landing near the horizontal edge of one of the tiles.

I have some inexpensive Adirondack chairs and the screws insist on coming loose. I figure I have two options - through bolt everything or glue. Which would be my best bet? If glue, Titebond III?

You could put toothpicks in the holes to help the screws grip better and then glue. That should do the trick.

I don't think it's IMarmi. At least it doesn't sound familar.

No worries- the ideas are great, and I think mostly helped validate my decision making process so far.

I didn't run the (valve) wall tiles far enough past the curb to return them to the floor, which might have been a bad idea, but I didn't want to end up with a small 1" sliver on that piece- I would have knocked it off while moving things around for sure. So I went flush. I'll play with it all tomorrow am and see what sticks
