What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

No difference in feel, since the real push is the clutch itself. The spring just ensures the pedal fully returns, which is important for cruise control.

 

I’m so used to lifting the pedal that final 1/8” with my foot every time I shift I don’t know what I’d do if it actually returned fully

 

I find I'm instinctual still doing that. Will need to retrain the left foot.

yep, I want something a little more modern than the off the shelf flares that are available.

I did a piecemeal 3D printed mold for a hood insert that has made me overconfident and set my targets unrealistically, so heres to trying over the next year lol

 

I’ve got OME springs and shocks all around, and the shocks are in need of replacing. I’ve got a pair for the front coming, but the rear ones, OME, seem to be unobtatium currently. Anyone know someplace that has them in stock? Baring that, suggestions for a good alternative. I do occasionally find myself in situations where my truck is fully flexed out, and I want to make sure any shocks I put on it can handle that.

 

I'd just get the good ole 5100. Bit better of a ride all around than the 4600 stock shocks.

But nothing crazy and they work.

Thanks for the info. I called them and they had two left. I probably got the last two in the country. They said OME is no longer making them.

 

OME/ARB's current spec sheet shows another part number for 1st gen in addition to the original 63062. The additional part# is 63065. When I look up 63065 I see it as for the Landcruiser 60 series. https://**********/products/63065 The dimensions listed are the same as the 63062 shock. 63065 is slightly heavier than 63062. What this all means , for you to decide lol.

 

installed limit straps and energy bumps. letting my tie rod ends limit down travel wasn't quite working

 

How do those bumps interact with the frame and full compression? They look like it would be a glancing type contact, not direct.

 

the pic is pretty deceptive at full droop, I'll have to try and take a compressed pic, the majority of it ends up under the bump pad and gets compressed. it's not 100pct contact and I may cut the top ring portion off so it gets flatter engagement but for $30/pair it will hold me over til I find the durobump I misplaced when I tore everything apart

 

Off with the 5100s and on with the Toytec Aluma 2.0s on the rear.

Well, that explains why the window had a mind of its own.


Being a little cheap and impatient, I fixed it up with some M5 screws and nuts.


Happy the window does what I want it to do now.

 

Manual trans fluid drain and fill on the new truck. Old fluid looked really clean and there was hardly anything on the drain plug.

 

Camper changed colors this weekend

 

Finally got time to take the truck out and test out the Eaton locker. Also fitted some Toytec Aluma Series 2.0s, and they seemed to let the rear end flex a bit more than the old 5100s.

 

Out with old and on with the new (Snugtop handle cover). Thought this would be hard to find but Snugtop dealer in town had it for <$10. Also adjusted and lubed the linkage so it shuts tightly instead of rattling at 1/2 latched but still locked (there's two clicks to the closure).

 

Wrapped up my timing belt job yesterday. Took me many hours stretched over two weeks, with a lot of cleaning, parts and tool chasing, and several unexpected trips to the dealer to buy more parts.

The rear tensioner bolt fought me quite a bit, but I got it removed with a bolt extractor, the taped wobble socket and a 1/4" extension setup.

Was on the fence between reusing the working 20 year old radiator and installing a new one, but ending up buying a new one. The shorter radiator for the manual transmission seems to be discontinued both from Toyota and Denso, so I had to use the longer AT radiator and longer lower radiator hose.

The Lisle spill free funnel kit doesn't have a perfectly sized metal plate adapter for the new Denso radiator, so there was some leakage, but I got the system burped and topped off yesterday.

Very glad to be done, hoping that I get another 10+ years of trouble free timing.
