This isn't technically Oregon/Washington, but I did spot some cool Toyotas while I was in Baja California Sur last month. These are only the ones I was quick or lucky enough to photograph. For every one I did photograph, I saw at least 5 worthy of snapping a photo of.

Finally my coolest experience, an intimate look at a Hilux. This dude and his wife were camped on the same beach we were at and were so friendly. Native to central Mexico, this dude was a collector of older Toyota's and his side hustle was fixing them up. He was so friendly that he insisted I drive the Hilux since I had such an interest in it. Really cool experience, one I definitely didn't anticipate.

Interior is pretty on par with the Taco in my opinion

The diesel engine was more like a Volkswagon than a Cummins. This thing sounded like a car, drove like a car, but obviously looks like a truck. Owner said he's owned a 3G Taco before and this thing is just as capable off-road wise. Plus he was bragging about his mileage lol.

Help the new WA resident out. I see most folks have both front and rear tags attached. Got mine yesterday. I do t wanna be drillin no holes in my front bumper (4R). Do I gotta? How bad is the enforcement on it?

I think they use it as an excuse to stop more than a sole reason for a stop…for example stop for no front plate in hopes that they get an odor of alcohol from you or find something or someone that shouldn’t be in the vehicle. It use to be a fix it ticket, not sure if it still is or not. Also, putting it in the windshield isn’t considered compliance as the RCW has pretty specific places on the vehicle it needs to be.

I would say you have little to worry about. Enforcement seems nonexistent. I haven't run one for 10 years, tho I do carry it with me. Only US border patrol (returning from CA) has asked about it. Even then, they did not make me mount it.

So noted. I’ll keep it in the truck. Thanks!

I’ve never badged my way out of anything but I don’t bend the law tooooo much either. Since I’m so close to the border, I’ll have to see how much I can press my luck, I plan on visiting frequently …

    Yea what he said ^^
Mine didn’t come with one and I keep the front plate in my glove box. I ain’t drilling holes in my bumper no way. Lots of Vettes and other cars don’t have them on either. Doesn’t seem to be a bother for the cops. The toll lanes on 405 and such still read your back plate and I’ve not had any problems there either.
I was sitting in traffic on 2 one day and counted 10 vehicles coming my way with no front plates in a matter of minutes. I wouldn’t worry about it. Nowadays traffic cops don’t bother with stuff like that

I believe the RCW requires if it came stock with the ability to mount one. That being said if there isn’t hole drilled or a plate mount, I would play dumb and say there isn’t a factory mount spot. The same with mudflaps, if it came stock or the height is lifted, then you’re required to keep them, hanging to center hub. Like you said, they have better things to pull people over for nowadays…that being said the could stop you…I’d just play dumb

I thought HB 1513 passed which would make it illegal for an officer to pull you over for most non moving traffic violations which includes “vehicle equipment”. Not sure what a front plate falls under. Apparently it didn’t pass but is being reintroduced in 2024.

Like others. No front plate on my 92 for 10+ years, no flaps, and a stance that exceeds the legal limit of poke from the fenders/flares. If I get pulled over for it I’ll try to play dumb and except the consequences if it comes to it.

I’ve been driving my 85 Runner since 2000 and have been stopped multiple times for no front plate and no mud flaps. From officers in my family they’ve said it’s a primary reason for a stop used to look for issues like DUI or felons driving cars. They also use inop tail lights for the same reasons. Could be the officers in my area are just more sensitive on these things.

As for HB 1513 it doesn’t look like it passed yet but is in the process according to app.leg.wa.gov. Also it appears they’ve put an amendment allow for non moving violations during daylight hours to inspect drivers license and inspect vehicle equipment.

For sure, definitely a great reason to stop people to catch bigger issues.

I saw that and feel like the amendment is backwards. Think they’d generate better results after dark.

Yeah. I can see both sides of this law or bill. They have more important things to do with their time but it is a law. I think the daylight is just for safety purposes of the officers

Didn’t think about the daylight being about officer safety but that makes a lot more sense.
