Installed an ATD on the tailgate. Had a hose clamp there briefly, but made the upgrade.

Package arrived on time. Product is top quality. Powder coat is pro.

Fits perfectly. A drill bit more peace of mind than a hose clamp.

Cheers to @christian06 for the quick turnaround. 20240412_140132.jpg 20240412_140010.jpg

I was wondering, is it common have your tailgate stolen? Seems like the kind of thing only other Tacoma owners would know to be easy?

It's not just Tacoma's, all trucks have a similar ease of tailgate removal

It’s identical to my old Rangers so it’s not a unique process. I’m guessing thieves target what’s easy and what’s in high demand and the most common vehicles are generally what get bent the most often. Not much is easier to remove than a tailgate. With practice I’d bet you could do it in 10 seconds or less.

common with my cheap anti theft bracket that uses a rare bolt? No.

common with that not done? Maybe. Always a bunch of tailgates listed online classifieds. Kind of odd don’t know why.

doesn’t seem like a demand. Who needs a tailgate besides whoever’s got stolen.

don’t see the purpose of a quick release. Can drive with it down and a flag.
Last time I loaded cargo on my bed with a forklift might have still had the tailgate on.

might be more of a thing for longer trucks to get a pallet in, if the forks run out of room.

    looks nice
Hope there’s a way to do it cheap
Last one I saw guy said 8 lights multicolor $800 which sounds like a lot for some little non performance wheel well lights

Trying to track down source of wet passenger carpet. Cabin air filter dry. Pillar dry (I have a factory roof rack). Drain running from cowl to lower rear of front 1/4 panel pretty clear. Truck has sat for the past week, rained a lot, and did not run, so nothing to do with A/C drain.

    1. there’s probably a TSB to replace your cowl. It’s $400. I’m gonna use tape.

    2. pic shows you don’t have a shield over the HVAC duct to redirect water. Folks generally DIYd that until PELE recently came out with a bolt on 3D printed kit

if you don’t already have that taken care of to rule out and address known problem areas kind of pointless to skip into interior tear down diag.

Especially if the truck doesn’t have other potential suspects added like snorkel drilled holes. I painted mine but should probably go back, redo it. Abrade, POR15>paint, then put new rivets lathered in silicone.

beyond that I’ve *heard* the thin metal around the HVAC intake can develop cracks that let water in, to be fixed by lathering seam sealer. But don’t know how that would be tested/confirmed and find exact area of crack IF that is even the case.

Preserving the camera hook up is the only thing that could really slow it down since the plug is tucked up behind the bumper.

Mine started leaking after I replaced the windshield, I went with an aftermarket one so the shitty Toyota design to keep the water out may not seat properly against the new glass ( my guess) . So I have to build a shield ( didn’t have time yet) also I want to pour water in the cowl without the cover to see if it drains (no idea where the drains are for the cowl)

Added some Subaru Kicker Tweeters to finish off speaker upgrades. Cut the harness off the factory tweeters and crimped on some female terminals. Simple upgrade.

Backed into a tree stump going 2mph, bumper/panel gap is slightly smaller than other side... I know it's gonna bother me, so might have to bump the other side to match :annoyed:

Finished my battery terminals/posts. I may trim down the positive a little so it looks better.

Got in a decent few hours saturday where I removed and cleaned the MAF, removed and cleaned the throttle body, replaced the plugs. Coil pack on cylinder #4 had some milkshake, a good buddy suggested valve cover gasket and seems like that is the consensus here on TW also. I tightened down the cover bolts, 1 was loose and 2 were kinda loose. So they’re all the same now we’ll see what happens.

Looks like next weekend will be a valve cover and plug cover gasket weekend. The fun of used trucks!

I have to do this soon. I have the TC gear all welded up, just need to have them burned on. Did you do this yourself or have someone else weld them?
