Aviation BS and Photo Thread

Photo I took when I was a kid spending a couple weeks on Catalina. I remember flying to the island as a 3 or 4 year old on the goose. Landing on water was terrifying even though both parents were heavily involved in aviation. I was used to landing on normal runways.

Had a nice stargazing night last night coming back from Hawaii. Always like finding the North Star and then cross-checking it with the compass.

 

Those F-35’s are LOUD

 

That they are.
The mayor of the little town Valparaiso, FL outside Eglin AFB sued the AF for several years trying to prevent them from stationing F-35s at the base over the noise issues.

 

At the Sun n Fun air show in Lakeland today the were shaking the house as my Mom is just east of runway 28

 

The A-12 family of jets are still the most impressive I've ever seen. To this day if one was at an airshow, they would grab all the attention, not bad for a 60+ year old! Pilot interviews for the A-12/SR-71 are some of the best I've ever heard!

 

Oh man, Catalina memories. When I was around 12 y.o. we would spend weeks at a time on Catalina during the summer. We'd fly over on the seaplanes with me in the right seat. All I really remember was bouncing on water landings with water splashing all over the windows, no controls on my side of the cockpit, and when we taxied over to Pebbly Beach the ramp was steep and the pilot had to use a lot of power to taxi up the ramp. Geez, hadn't thought about those Catalina memories in a very long time.

haha, I also have a vague memory of the pilot cranking like an angry mad man to raise/lower the gear.

Pretty cool. Back in 2017, my youngest and I went to an airshow just so he could meet LTC Dick Cole, Doolittles copilot on that day.

 

That is very cool. Excellent Dad work.

 

My dad second from left during Air Force jet training back in the early 50s. He told me they would fly these through the grand canyon.

The VT Air National Guard flies their F-35s over my way in to the White Mountains, we’re under the Yankee 1 MOA. The rumble is unmistakeable.

In the few years they’ve been flying them, I’ve only gotten a flash of the sun off one of them.
