I agree with you on the taxes. I have been doing my own for most of my life. Super easy now without a business. I believe that Tax preparing companies and financial advisors try to convince you that you need their expertise. You are ignorant, they know better. I have a friend that owns 3 tax prep franchises, He has explained how much he charges. I asked him how he sleeps at night.
I have occasionally hired a tax cpa or a "financial advisor" to review my investments. I would never(again) hire someone to "manage" my money. They only care about their commission with no accountability. Plan on giving at least 2% to someone each and every year, If you have 1mil in an IRA 2% over 20 years is 400,000. The key to financial success is not how much you make, it is how much you spend.

Also I disagree. Tax laws change every year and are insanely complicated. If you are anything more than a W2 employee that lives at home with your parents for free, you are paying the government too much. (And you still might be) There are so many ways to reduce your tax burden and knowing what is legal/possible is essentially impossible for the average American to understand. Its done on purpose so the government can take your money in an effort to keep you down. Its not a red vs. blue argument either, its all of them.
    - end libertarian rant

Also if you value your time, paying someone else to do mundane/complicated tasks like staying on top of tax laws and preparing your taxes quickly pays for itself. And Im not talking about some fresh out of college cpa at the corner tax prep office, Im talking about a true accounting firm or tax attorney.

Please share some of these complicated IRS rules, I find taxes quite simple. I do not live with my parents, they are dead.

You're kidding right? Here is a link to just the changes in Federal tax regulations for 2024. Its 35 pages long. If you honestly think you understand all of the state laws, federal laws and keep up with the changes to file your taxes correctly and maximize every penny of your wealth then good for you. Im not capable of doing that and enjoying life at the same time. https://www.irs.gov/irb/2023-48_IRB#idm139809989376784 Without going into detail about my personal finances, my wife and I have multiple homes, multiple rental properties, multiple LLCs, income from multiple states, W2 income, 1099 income etc. Aint no way Im doing my taxes and getting it right.

I am not kidding. 99% of those new regulations do not apply to me. If even a small portion of them do apply to you, you should be paying a professional. Everyone's situation is different. I have a few properties as well but I have been retired for 18 years.

This year when filing, we used just about every form there was. My financial planner did an excellent job and was able to save us a few thousand from what TurboTax estimated. Everything above board. But knowing the system is key.
Either way, do whatever you’re comfortable with. If you don’t know you’re leaving money on the table, then ignorance is bliss.

Anyone down for an AZTW mod day before it gets too spicy out? I've got my alignment cam tab gussets and I'm gonna grab some CMC plates in anticipation of 33s... and I can't weld.

Will happily provide a metric fuckload of street tacos and cervezas though!

Well shit, applying your logic as an 18 year retiree makes no sense for people that are still employed and in their earning years. The last thing those people should be doing is be sitting back and thinking H&R block free tax filing is the best thing to do. They need to be in serious financial planning mode and most people dont know how to do that, especially in the days of pensions being gone and everything being insanely expensive.

My weekends are pretty full, If I have the date free I can bring the glue gun and get it all burned on for you.:welder: Also happy to provide the choppy chop:sawzall:

EDIT, I can probably host this next weekend or the 11th of May?? I'll have to run it by the Warden and see if she's cool with it.
About the only ones i have open for awhile. My May schedule is pretty booked. Unless someone else wants the honor?
