He already offered to cover everything to make it new again; no questions asked. I'm just debating if I even take him up on the repair considering that it seems to be purely cosmetic and will be covered by my frame bag. This was a total accident as we've all previously put our bikes on the rack that broke. He's a very careful person, especially with gear, or I never would've lent him the bike in the first place.

I see what you're saying now! I'm not sure that I feel right taking the money from him and putting it towards a completely different bike. Either he's paying for the repair directly or I'm letting him off the hook...

Agreed man. No way I'd run it that close. Between BB and CS flex it's bound to rub.
Damn man. That's crazy that it only got a dent at 70mph.
Don't know much about Ti strength characteristics. Can you do some research in the Ti world to see if that's a structural concern? I wouldn't run that in AL, I've seen frames buckle with those kind of dents.

Not sure. With the Push conversion you need to commit to a travel length, not sure about others.
But a new Helm Coil fork from Cane Creek gives you 130-160 adjustability. Rode the Helm for a while, was a big fan.

I'd probably let him off the hook and chalk it up to an accident. I'm not even saying put the money towards a new bike; really just comparing the repair cost to a new frame - im just bad with words. Maybe talk to some of those paintless dent removal guys, haha.

The only thing I'd pay attention to with a NX build is the hub standard. The rear wheel may have an HG freehub which could limit your upgrades down the road. I bought a fat bike with an SX cassette and I'm limited to either SX or NX cassettes because of the freehub (or obviously buy a new freehub to upgrade to a GX or better cassette). Just something to be aware of if it's important to you.

I have talked to a few Ti frame builders, and the consensus is that Ti is completely unfazed by a dent like that.

Yea, this is the thing with Ti... it's so expensive to work with due to the whole argon welding craziness. I think it's also much harder to remove the dent compared to steel, which is why the suggestion we got was to just replace the whole top tube.

First thing to check is the foam sleeve/cover on the dropper cable housing. It can move around a little, especially if someone removed the dropper post without loosening the cable port (so the cable is free to move inside the frame). Get the bike upside down and remove the black frame cover that is just in front of the BB. You should be able to see your dropper cable in the downtube and as it curves up into the seat tube. If that foam sleeve/cover is not covering the cable at that curve/BB junction, you'll get a continuous cable rattle from that point. Hopefully you can see the foam cover and move it/slide it where it needs to be (The middle of the sleeve should be at that BB junction...1/2 up the seat tube, 1/2 up the downtube). If not, you'll need to remove the dropper and cable and re-adjust. It is a big PITA, but still easy. That is the biggest offender I've found for cable rattle on the FB.

Also, check the rear brake & rear derailleur cables where they "daylight" around the BB. Any extra slack should be removed by loosening ports, pulling cable through ports and tightening ports. These two short runs of cable outside the frame can also be noisemakers.

    Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

My $.02 for what its worth. I was thinking of getting the NX build just to have a backup frame (I really like my Spur) and sell off everything except the dropper and pocket some coin for future upgrades. The older Spur with the Sid suspension isn't a bad deal though. The 3400.00 for NX is sweet but I personally would need to upgrade most the components; wheels, drive train, bar, prolly live with brakes and cranks for a bit so it would be costly for me. The 4200.00 for the Sid equipped bike may be a better deal even if you don't have different suspension to put on right away and not implying you need or would want to just that I'm not a racer or weight weenie and not a fan of Sid stuff. You can always upgrade in the fall if you don't get along with the Sid with all the Black Friday deals.

Just for the record, the Spur is probably the best short travel trail bike out there, IMO. I think you would like it a lot.

Agreed. If I had the extra coin I’d grab that NX Spur for backup frame purposes, and simply to have a color variety. Love my Spur.

Interesting, maybe I should buy that and swap the parts from my ripley to the spur...

looks like I might be able to sell the ripley for $2000-2500ish with the takeoff parts basically making it a $1400ish spur frame...

    RaceFace owned by fox?

I graduate in december so I'm poking around on sites of companies that do cool stuff/things I find entertaining so it'd be easier to motivate myself, and click on the careers page on RaceFace site and boom over to Fox Careers site I go.
Were they always owned by fox? or get bought out at some point?

Unfortunately Troy Lee Doesn't have any openings posted lol. Was also thinking abt places I'd wanna live so checked Revel and Transition lol. Poking around cus why not

Edit: by any chance if one of you work in a related industry I'd be curious if you've got any pointers on how to get in. Lot of the more entry level corporate positions I'm seeing still want previous experience. Which I'm assuming is due to some of these being smaller companies with less ability to take new college grads and pay them while training them? Since realistically a college grad is usually useless until they learn how the work world works. not just the classroom bullshit

ive been thinking about it all morning (and over the weekend) and think i'll get the dark and bronze spur from my LBS if they still have it tomorrow on my lunch break. i asked my fiance what color she liked more and she picked the bronze so that kinda justifies the extra cost lol.

i'll just ride the sid stuff until i need to replace or upgrade stuff. the gx build will match my gx patrol better

Raceface was bought by Fox a few years ago, they weren't always the same company.

I'm not in the industry but tried to get in for a tiny bit. I interviewed at Specialized and Trek a couple years apart. It was for IT roles, business/product analyst type roles. I know for sure I didn't get the Specialized job because I didn't have any experience with mobile development. I don't remember what happened with Trek.

I think it's possible to get into the cycling industry, knowing people helps but that is the case with all industries. If you want to play the long game to get into the industry I'd want skills that translate across industries. For me that was getting into a product role so that I could show my experience translates.

As a sideish note, I'd recommend to really consider what you want, is it to say that you work at a bike company, to actually be hands on in the bike industry, or have the balance to be able to ride bikes all weekend every weekend and be able to afford it. Those three things can get accomplished in very different ways.

    Yeah.
Keep poking around, be persistent, and keep options open. My daughter was finding the same thing -- entry-level positions and they want 3-5 years experience. Well, that's not really entry-level, then, is it?

I'm just someone that If I care about/am interested in the product/goal of the company its much easier and less mentally taxing to motivate myself to work. Would be worth a small pay cut for that balance, but not taking half of what I could be doing elsewhere yes.

One thing you could consider is working at a shop for a year or two before a "real" job. One of the shop owners offered me a job while I was job searching right before graduation and I sometimes wonder what would have happened differently.

Some shop owners have some interesting connections too.

i tried to get in with Sram out of college in colorado springs after working in a shop for years. they said i didnt have enough experience so i got a job where im at now which is down the road from sram. i was applying for a test engineer position at sram, which is funny because thats my title now. my job is cool to me, definitely not bike related, but interesting. a lot more room for growth with a good work home life balance. i think if i ended up at sram my life would be wildy different as in i probably wouldn't make as much, would travel a lot more, and probably get a lot more free/discounted bike stuff.

some friends worked for different bike companies. one has travelled all over the place, worked at different shops, distributors, teams as their mechanic where ever they race.

either way, lots of companies in colorado. a bunch in denver and some down in springs too. not sure if youre looking at anything out here
