Reliability has always been diminished when running 35's with these trucks. CV's, diffs, streering rack, wheel bearings ball joints. All those components are being stressed past their design specs and are very pricy to replace.

High turbo and transmission temps when running e load 35's (90 pounds per tire) and all that weight sound about right. Im guessing they don't have a secondary transmission cooler like my 16. I wouldn't be surprised if the max handled 35' s better and reduced thermal load on the turbo.

No doubt it will reduce turbo longevity. But that's the cost users will have to weigh if they want to run 35's. At least the CV's have been redesigned to handle being lifted. Larger diffs and brakes on the hybrid will help run 35's. TH and PRO's seem to be deigned to run 35's from the factory. Will be interesting to see if they beefed up any components other than the steering rack, which is a huge upgrade IMO.

I'm guessing stock gearing as well for those trucks. That's pretty impressive in Colorado, with the grades and altitude. A third gen couldn't manage without an immediate re gear.

I agree, but replacing a turbo or straining the powertrain is a whole other animal over ball bearings and CVs. I will vouch to say a lot of owners are gonna be like "whats the biggest size I can run" and will stuff 35s on there without thinking much more about it. See the lift and tire posts of new owners daily.

IMO, the little Turbo 4 banger is going to burn up under these kinds of loads. Holding onto the V6 for at least three more years and probably going in a different direction when the time comes. Dont like the look of the new truck anyhow.

I do wish the displacement was a little higher than 2.4L. 3.0L would have been nice. Even 2.7L.

So were saying the Chevy 2.7 Turbo 4-banger is good to go with 35s (factory equipped, no less), but a Toyota 2.4 Turbo 4 will burn up if you run the big tires?

    upload_2024-4-15_18-44-15.png

Edit: Ford also offers 35" tires on the Bronco with the 2.3 Turbo 4.

If Chief Engineer Shelton is to be believed, the Tacoma was tested way beyond your wildest dreams.

That guy doesn't look like he can afford a new Tacoma let alone one with 15K in Mods, but run a negative headline on YouTube and cha-ching you're making your payments.

Nothing broken and no pics of over temping. TFL towed a heavy trailer uphill at altitude with video showing no overheating. This guy's story is pure fiction but everyone was real quick to pile on top of it. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

That is the stupidest foil hat theory I have heard. TFL wasn’t armored up and on 35s. And this isn’t his first build as you judge someone based on looks.

I love the new look of the 4th gen but hate the v4 Turbo option and sticker price. I much rather keep my 3rd gen and when the 2nd gen needs to be replaced, I'll get a used 2022 or 23 Lunar TRD.

    Yeah, it's a 4 Cylinder engine, hence v4. Your 3rd gen is considered a V6.

TFL wasn’t armored up and on 35s, but they were pulling up hill at max towing capacity. This dude is acting like just driving at freeway speeds has you at max boost in top gear at all times? I think the story is likely somewhere in the middle. Nevermind that he would not get 15mpg at max boost at all times
