I keep my plate in my glovebox and if I get pulled over the plan is to say I been waiting for a bracket from the dealer but it isn’t in yet.

I used to have problems with raccoons eating my chickens and tearing up my fig trees. I lived too close to neighbors to discharge a .22 so I bought a paintball gun and solid nylon riot control balls. Perhaps it is cruel of me to say the cries of pain pests made when I hit them were pretty satisfying, and I’d really enjoy the opportunity to tag a thief the same way.

I’m interested in learning more about the legalities behind defending your property. I’ve had my truck broken into and a car stolen and wonder what would have happened if I caught the person(s) in the act. Obviously nothing was ever done from a police standpoint since they have bigger issues to contend with.

IMG_7683.jpg I use these for dealing with raccoons. At night they alert the Pitbull that lives in the house. With the backslider left cracked open it’s a pretty good theft deterrent most people don’t want to get stretched by a pack of dogs.

I would take a gander and say since the guy was retreating the guy doing what any of us would do is probably in the wrong.

Believe from a legality standpoint it’s defense from imminent threat. Perceived or otherwise.

Now when the car tried to run him down. Fire away.

The assault with the car was intense, but since the thief retreated then would it turn to a defense case for the retreating thief? Not trying to justify any actions taken, just trying to wrap my head around it.

Possibly, but I’m not an expert. Be a good scenario to discuss with a lawyer or LEO. I’m just guessing self defense grounds end when the “threat” is retreating.

You have to navigate between stand your ground, castle doctrine and not to use more force than necessary.

I would think the threat to the actual thief stopped once he fled. Then the second threat was the driver of the getaway car running him down. I would think if armed any interaction with the actual thief wouldn’t have been justified use of force but once the car runs the homeowner down and he’s on top of the car, I think that would have been justified use of force. Like Steelhead I’m no expert but, a cop would have used deadly force at that point on the driver so I feel as a citizen you should be able to also, I know that’s not how it works in the court system but in my thought process it should. This could get tricky like the Trevon Martin case as the homeowner put himself in a situation he “should” call the cops on. Most of us would probably want to stop the thief.

It’s been about 18 years since I ran a front plate as well on my current and previous vehicles. Key is to not have obvious drilled holes or an empty bracket. My truck I asked them to not drill and mount the bracket, same with my wife’s GX. With the plate bumper I don’t have a spot to mount it either…no issues coming to or from Canada either.

I run no front plate, and during the summer, a bike rack that blocks my rear plate. I've never had any issues.

Although, when I got pulled over for my red halos, they mentioned my lack of front plate, but didn't write me up for it.

I'll never have a front plate, they look stupid

I'm pretty sure no front plate is a secondary offense and you won't get pulled over for it but if you get pulled over for something else they can add it on if they want to.

I mean I've never been pulled over for just the front plate. always been an add on "offence" you know pulled over for speeding, or something and then a also failure to display front plate. never actually paid for one though always been a fix it ticket shown a picture of the "repair" or with some double sided tape then right back off.

though some of my cars with no holes in the bumper I've just said there is no bracket to attach, or no holes. to mount. and gotten away with it several times, heck my ARB bumper didn't have holes in the right spots and they have a bracket for the plate that I've pulled my plate off the dash and held it over the holes and pointed out they don't line up. but ive also grabbed a couple zip ties and strapped it to the hoop and usually cut them off as soon as they leave.

if they could ditch those wheels that truck would be way better! but the real truth is there is some prior owner who thought those were the hottest thing they had seen! heck i love the wheels that are on my truck, but wish they were the graphite color instead but they aren't bad at all.
