Ah, that's great you figured it out. The wheel that has an issue can probably be fixed significantly cheaper than a new one. Take one that fits along with the problem wheel to a local machine shop and discuss this with them. I suspect they can resolve the issue for less than $100. Another option is to try to resolve the issue yourself..... color the area of the inside of the bore with a black sharpie and try to fit the wheel on the truck. Rock the wheel around while trying to fit it up. Then remove wheel and look at the area you marked with a sharpie and use a Dremel to remove material from that area.

Post pics when you get them on! I'm leaning towards getting the gunmetal TRD wheels and want to see how they look

That’s not a bad idea. I’ll probably do that later and keep this wheel as a spare. I could probably just use some sandpaper in the bore to get things fixed but it’s really hard for me to do this kind of thing with my hip.

So, just to check it’s normal for these to fit really tight? I know the hub sets the alignment but my factory Off Road wheels aren’t this hard to get on.

I appreciate the help! Now I just have to figure out what I can do about my spare since the new tires are 265/70-17 I’m not sure if a bigger tire will fit in the spare location.

I too went to 265/70r17 tires but kept the OEM spare and not worried about it. The OEM spare will work fine if I ever need it. The wheels should slip on without issue... if they are snug then the bores are slighly undersize but may work just fine.

Just measured the new style TRD Rims that came with my 2022 4Runner TRD PRO.
I didn't had the drive to measure all 4 so I just picked up the top one.
    It came at 10.81mm depth.
So if the drum is 11mm, we're talking a hair, or .19mm.
Negligible in my opinion, as these are alloy rims, on trucks, not F1 or supercars.
They'll get seated once the drum rings get a good rub with scotchbrite and the wheels torqued to specs.
However, not a bad idea to machine them another 2mm to allow for a bit of rust in case one gas to change a wheel or fix a flat on the side of the road with basic tools.

    Just my .02

Edit: As I mentioned, ive only measured the depth of the center bore on the top wheel, and these are brand new take offs with 20 miles or so on them, took them off the day I picked up my 4Runner and replaced them with one of the 2 different sets of wheels I had in my garage and never installed them, they've been sitting stacked on a piano dolly since St Patrick's Day 2022 when I got Patricia home from the dealership.
There's no gunk, grime or any oxidation on the back of the wheel, and I never cleaned the back of it with a wire brush or scotchbrite.
Never even washed them as they've never been dirty.
Even with a 3% error at measuring, we're still talking half a mm difference, in my opinion not at all the end of the world once torqued to specs, they'll get seated without any risk of warping them.
Flack, I've had one of the best tire shops in town ctossthread 6 out of the 32 lugs on my old Cummins, I'd bet the farm that half a mm won't make them lose any sleep.

    EDIT 2:
I also own a 2023 Tacoma TRD PRO M/T however it's -45 with the windchill outside so I won't be swapping any wheels until it gets a lot warmer, at least -5C or about 30F for those of you who can't divide by 10.
Ive also been reading more on the thread, and between some people having issues with both the dust caps in the front as well as the rims getting stuck at the rear, it now seems like the most sensiblesolution is to have the rims machined and the bore extended by 2-3 mm.

thank you everyone for contributing to the thread, i had no idea that they werent interchangeable, it wouldve blowed if id swapped both front wheels only to find that the rears dont sear properly..
ill do more measuring, and will update the thread sometime next week.

    I'll take them.
Going to Baja end of January, if you still have them I'll detour thru Phoenix.

I've seen where some folks bolt them on and roll with it. But in my case, I had a substantial clearance issue and chose to bevel the rear hub. Being that I'm a machinist, I wish I would have bored the wheels so they would fit any any other 3rd gen Taco.

Hindsight is always 20/20. We all have that day when we try and make things work.
Is -45 here so I'm not going to even try anything until the weather warms up a little, but I decided to bore the rims.

    UPDATE.
So yesterday I went to the tire shop and had the tires taken off the rims.
Went to a buddy of mine who's lathe couldn't be used for the rims, then to a rim store that quoted me $120/rim to bore them another 2mm. Asked around a few heavy duty diesel mechanics, no dice.
So today I got anxious waiting for people to get back to me, so I decided to work on them in my garage.
I used a 4-1/8" Greenlee hole saw, by hand(didn’t used the power drill) and rotate it in reverse.
Took me the entire day, and, they turned MINT.
13.25mm deep, no ridges, first 9-10mm on each rim are completely unscuffed so it shouldn't affect the structural integrity.

My hands hurt like hell, but, I do NOT recommend using an electric or cordless drill with the hole saw as it will definitely skip (ask me how I know, cut my thumb pretty bad this summer drilling into plastic, the teeth are just too big fir anything other than wood).

I don't like taking pictures, and the lighting isn't great for pictures in my garage, but, here you go.
Too cold to pull the wheels off my Tacoma, but, I'll use a bit of antiseize at install.

I put that sh!t on everything.

PS: Bottom picture is the first rim I did, got a couple small dings when I tried rotating the hole saw clockwise, it's how I learned to keep going in reverse(counterclockwise). I also used a light coat of PB Blaster Multi Purpose Lubricant as I prefer it to WD40.

PS2: I probably didn't need to go as deep as I did, and, if it was warm outside, I would've pulled a wheel off from both front and rear and would've tried the depth and stopped a lot sooner, but, oh well.

    Cool
Please do update if you get any vibrations from the wheel “mod”.

This certainly should do it. Definitely a great idea.

I have some family in Calgary as well as Cupar SA……it’s been a bit chilly lately

That came out quite nice. I'm amazed that the hole saw fit as well as it did. It looks like the Greenlee 4-1/8" is just a tad bit smaller than the bore(which is what you want).

It takes a pretty large lathe to do these wheels on a lathe.

It shouldn't, the first 9mm of the bore are completely pristine, the next 2mm are just scuffed, can't feel a ridge and the last 2mm are a bit rough(er) than on a lathe but should smooth out once I put a bit of grease and take my time tightening the lugnuts.
Now I know that some of you tried hub centric rims on brand new Tacos and are probably concerned about a snug fit, but I've seen hub rings rusted to shits so I doubt they had a snug fit..

Indeed, it is a bit smaller than the bore, it goes in pretty snug so you have to be gentle.
Rotating it flat, by hand, takes a bit of finesse at first, but once it creates a groove it smoothes out.
I forgot to mention, I set the rim on a blanket, and, I also turned the wheel clockwise, about 10° every 4 turns of the hole saw.
I'm also very good with my hands, always been, it's a gift not a skill, although it improved with practice. Only mentioning it because, I've seen first hand people with no dexterity, my oldest son for example has 2 left hands and will drop a glass of water 2 out of 3 times, so if you're doubting your skills I'd play it safe and take it to a machine shop.

Like everything worthwhile it takes time, effort and patience, but doable with simple tools.

I would've went with the machining route, but they f@wking act like it's brain surgery, $500+ with Tax and 3 weeks turn around time...

The world is going to sh!t, you need to make an appointment and they'll get you in next week just to patch a flat tire at most tire shops in town.

Reviving this because I ran into a wobble issue. Noticed the gap and had difficulty taking the wheel off. Long story short I found this via a search, chamfered my hub just a touch, and was good to go. Thanks to all in the thread.

Also threw on the trail edition tacoma grille. Amazon garnish works well so far.

Looks great man. I sort of suspect your not the only one that thought the OEM wheels fit without issue.

    How much lift is that?
