It’s nice that the entire interior is not trying to be tacticool like the Tacoma and 4Runner.

You need to do a restomod on an old truck like that. Find a rust free desert truck and put a modern drivetrain in it.

How do you know this cant? Remember the spaces shown are with the front seats all the way back. That tall of a person shouldn't be buying this.

Yep, good friend of mine has a 60s era 3 door, he dropped in a 12V Cummins and 60s, he daily drives it.

Really nothing in today’s market that is very appealing, I guess the Sequoia is Toyota’s answer to a Suburban/Tahoe, but that thing is an overpriced hot mess.

This is about the closest thing I can get to a Troopy without importing one, probably a lot less headache too.

Little too much lift for my taste, but it is certainly badass. He kinda despises modern vehicles and always getting on me that I should just build something since I pretty much feel the same, though spent most of my life wrenching on vehicles so kinda over it. Really the only reason I bought a new truck. Soooo tired of busting my knuckles…

Of course new vehicles are expensive and cheaply made, pick your poison I guess.

Found a pic of the engine bay.

he makes a good point about how the 4Runner is probably a better bang for your buck considering how much overlap their is, and even extra things not he 4runner like that 3rd row

I'm surprised with a lot of Toyotas configuration decisions lately. They could have gone with the non-hybrid powertrain in the Sequoia and avoided the entire 3rd row mess. They could have done the same in the Land Cruiser - gone with the TT V6 - and then there would be a significant differentiator vs the 4runner and the GX would still have been upmarket because it's a Lexus. And they do all that work to develop the 6MT on the new Tacoma and then don't carry it over to the 4Runner which by all accounts is a 4th gen Tacoma SUV.

Don't get me wrong - I love the fleet they've put together. Just seems to me like they chose the wrong fork in the road every time.

From an off-roader perspective setup practically everyone removes the 3rd row seats anyway to set up a rear drawer and overloading setup or just cargo carrying anyway.

yep I hear you there - I took the back seat out of my Tacoma. I guess it's a coupe now? Still surprised they made the decisions they made.

The 3rd row seat has ruined midsize SUVs, they have become popular because the people who really need them have deemed minivans uncool. They have most the buying power so manufacturers cater to them. And for Toyota being so hell bent on hybrids, has further ruined their BOF SUVs. Other than all out power, they do nothing for mpg, don’t see the point, an expensive add-on that most didn’t asked for.

That said the Hybrid Highlander makes a lot of sense to me, decent mileage, 3rd Row yet with usable cargo space. Not a BOF, but big deal….majority of SUV buyers would be better served with that platform.

It’s crazy how the new landcruiser has tumble seats and cup holders and usb in the back for the third row that doesn’t exist. That’s lame for something so expensive to have reused parts for another vehicle.

If the seats are folded and you have a mattress back there you have to go all the way to the front to plug in and put your drinks. This way it's all there when camping in the back. Doug does not think that way. I suspect he isn't a camper etc.

Probably because it is a global vehicle, you would think they would make different panels for the US models. Since this the same company that made two tundras but one slightly larger than other. Some (a lot!???) of their engineering/design decisions are baffling.

I can see that, however highly doubt that is the reasoning. Global LC gets a 3rd Row.

Those cup holders in the 4R, are going to make things tight!

I hear that. But I need an extra long charging cable to go from the dash all the way to the rear when sleeping in the back. Just thinking it was a bonus not a design flaw.

I highly doubt that’s the reason. Why put in tumbling seats that use up more space when tumbled?
