And $500 is being generous, you're really paying for the warranty not the cost to protect the vehicle.

Like I said, maybe its just my inexperience of how most dealerships operate; but I'd think it'd only be common courtesy to quickly pop in, say "hey man, I'm not interested in buying anything today, just driving by and noticed you had a 24 Tacoma on the lot. Is it sold already, or do you mind if I check out the interior?" Even if its my understanding that lots kept the vehicles unlocked, I'd much rather them say "go ahead, all the cars on the lot are unlocked, I can walk you over and show it to you" vs just walking through the lot hopping in vehicles. That initial contact would hopefully also set the precedent 'I have no intention to buy'/you don't have to waste your time helping me if there are other things you could be doing.

I also imagine if the truck was already sold, and the owner wasn't there, they'd more than likely still offer to show it to me under their supervision, vs just trying to hop in and getting shut down immediately.

How is there a Taco Pro video today if the embargo doesn't lift until 4/23?

One thing that seems to be common in the LC videos are the many comments about how nice it rides. The roads suck ass in my area, so that would go into the "Pros" column.

None of them drove the Pro. They were all passengers while DG Spec was doing their testing.

I haven't seen the videos but did they have a chance to run it on the highway at higher speeds? Thats where you may or may not see the performance fall off or be a little disappointing on a 4 cyl. Thats already been noted on this powertrain by some owners.

I don't hate on the little motor, I love ripping around the track or backroads in a little 4cyl like a Miata, and in that capacity they feel like a go cart on wheels. Its just nature of the beast at higher speeds they tend to not be so entertaining.

Thats not a fault of Toyota, its the nature of the beast.

Post 231 on 6th Gen 4 runner is Tacoma SUV thread. Member here, one of the first that purchased etc comparing V6 with 4th gen, they owned both. Like I said, when I read that it was not surprising as that would be kind of what I expected.

I'm sure there is a way for me to quote this ad drag it over to this thread from the other but I didn't know how so I copy pasted it.

"Cruise the highway at 65 or 70mph, and then floor it. The 3rd gen Tacoma will take off like a cut cat, and it comes alive in the top end, but the new Tacoma is kind of anemic up there. This highway speed scenario is the only condition I've found that the 2.4 Turbo loses to the 3.5, but it is a minor annoyance to me.

The low and midrange torque of the new truck is wonderful, and hot rodding around town in a Tacoma is something I never got to experience, because my 3rd gen was a turd when taking off or city driving. If I lived on the highway though I'd be longing for my 3rd gen's top end pull."

I’ve looked at several reviews of the 24. Most end up under the hood at some point. I’ve noticed some models/trims didn’t have the sound deadening material. My OR came with it, just curious if there was a rhyme or reason.

The only feedback I've ever heard about the 2GR-FKS is "I wish I had the 1GR-FE".

I do have the premium package. I'd guessed that was the case, I just didn't see it listed as an added feature.

It absorbs oil a little better when the turbo gives way making it easier to clean up..:):):crapstorm::crapstorm:

I don't know why any midsize truck buyer is concerned with engine noise? I wouldn't expect Cadillac or Lexus quite in a Tacoma. The engine probably isn't all that loud to begin with. The sound deadening could become loose and cause a mechanical issue, or a potential recall. If it's there when you buy the truck that's one thing, I wouldn't add it as an option.

It's a protective flak shield when the turbo blows. :D

Is taking off like a cut cat good or bad? I thought 3rd gen V6 didn't have low end power. With two extra gears and more torque, I would think the 2.4 would stay in it's power band longer and do better than the 3.5.

I have driven the new powertrain on the highway and I disagree. Cruising between 65-75 required less rpm and I was able to maintain speeds on steeper grades better than my 16. It was an overall more relaxed experience and the power was more accessible even at those higher speeds. The transmission is quicker, didn’t hunt, and overall the truck feels less strained at highway speeds.

My 16 feels like a kid with asthma especially up here at elevation in CO. The top end on the third gen is great and pulls hard. The 3.5 always had better pull and power delivery at highway speeds than the 4.0 for that reason. The problem is you end up having to drive above 3,000 rpm for extended periods of time, especially when faced with headwinds, hills and carrying any amount of weight. Yesterday I drove from abq to Denver on I-25 north. I make this drive regularly and the amount of time spent between 3k and 6k rpm is exhausting. In the 4g (and the grand highlander I drove) you don’t have to spend all your time in the upper end of the rev range to maintain highway speeds because the midrange actually has adequate power. This dramatically changes the driving experience. In my third gen, if I’m not constantly pushing that v6 above 3k I’m getting passed by semis. In the 4g I often found myself speeding without trying. It would effortlessly ascend grades that have my 3g screaming at 5k rpm. The top end may pull a little harder on the 3.5, but you just don’t have to access that top end all the time in the 2.4l. I haven’t driven the hybrid but I’m sure that 326 hp will be noticeable at the top end compared to our 278.

For that LC review they most likely had driven the gx with the ttv6 to compare it too. That engine absolutely pulls and I’m sure feels less strained than the 2.4 at highway speeds. I personally think they should have offered the LC with the ttv6. The new LC doesn’t appear do anything better than the new 4Runner.
