I did the drive after re-gearing at the ECGS shop and it wasn't that bad. The worst part is that ECGS is in the middle of nowhere so you either sit in their waiting room for a full day (they got mine done in 1 day, but it could run into a second day) or get a hotel in the tiny little town nearby and Uber back and forth.

On the subject of shops though I've used clemson 4 wheel center in senca. It's a little longer drive but they are a good shop. I've also heard positive things about Krawl in Anderson. I think the Tacoma community is pretty cool and I'd like us to be like family. If you can arrange it on a weekend I'm sure one of us could meet you at whatever shop you choose, to take you home, and bring you back.

When I do get enough spare cash around to ultimately pull the trigger on these, I'm leaning on going the preassembled thirds and knock them out in the driveway. I know that it's not wise to mix two different gear ratios between front and rear but as long as you don't engage the 4wd until you get both gearboxes in, I believe I'll be good. One weekend to knock out the rear diff then ship that core back. Then the next weekend to knock out the front diff. In my opinion, that seems to be the best solution for me. Then I'd piss around messing with wiring up the Eaton E-locker for the front (havent purchased anything, just knocking that idea around).

Yeah if I did it again I'd get the front locker too. I skipped it at the time since it was another $1k and I was already spending a boatload on the re-gear.

Slow down a bit, take a country road, see some sites, don't have to run 95mph all the time

I did the same thing 2+ years ago. The drive back sucks since you're breaking in the gears but at least you'll be 50% done with the break-in by the time you're back home. A tune would also be a big help with the constant gear hunting and throttle response. OTT with 5.29s is the way to go!
