I did. Half the posts were off topic focusing on AT fluid changes, which are irrelevant to the 3 year old thread. Maybe next time you could read the beginning of the thread?

I'm not the one three years late and off topic. I did all the service on my old 01 manual, so was curious where this was going and if I could help. But it was mostly off topic halfway through.

    Hello,

I did NOT Intend to cause friction on The thread. I found it since I had questions about transmission fluid, though the truck i have has an automatic tranny. I have tried YouTube, but it's for other Tacoma's In regard to ATF transmission. I am new to truck maintenance.

Can a 2002 4cyl Tacoma prerunner SR5 2.7l refill the transmission fluid through the dipstick area once it is drained? Just wanted to Confirm it can be done.

You're good, you didn't do anything wrong at all.

I don't have an auto so I can't confirm exactly, but here's the owners manual's guide to changing atf fluid
    Hope it helps

Sure you can, you just need to find a long slender funnel that'll fit in the mouth of that tube...

I actually use a long lower funnel.....with another med long above that....
the upper one just catches/ rests on the fuel lines..

Fill it super slow so you dont have fluid back up the tube and leak out at bottom of the low funnel..

how do think the fluid got in there in the first place....

that pump comes with a long rigid straw tube that pulls it right out....
have to manipulate that tube to get to the bottom of the pan...

I'm really anal about the fluids..... mine are crystal clear....
except the Dot3.....that ambers pretty quick......especially with the proportion valve recirculation....

all those who hate old thread jumpers....can move to North Korea.....pretty sure they got dissent tamped down there....might even thrive there.....

    Hi,

Regarding "Fluids". I DONT think the brake fluid has been changed EVER. Is brake fluid lifetime on a 2002 Tacoma prerunner SR5 4 CYL 2.7L engine with 268K miles?
I have read about brake fluid being lifetime on cars.‍

Would anyone have a diagnostics explanation like "Time623" posted? It is VERY helpful and self explanatory on process.

    Thank you for your help

For what it's worth, you don't have to be as hard core about having crystal clear fluids- most folks don't, and it's not an issue. Regularly scheduled changing is all that's required to keep things up.

A brake fluid flush can be easily done in the "old school" way by just (continuously, it should never become empty, or even close) adding new fluid into the master cylinder reservoir, and using the brake pedal to push the old fluid out via the bleeders. If you search for "how to bleed brakes" you'll likely find a ton of guides / videos.

That being said, I much prefer to use a Motiv Power Bleeder over the other options. It would be a large investment as a one off item though.

If you've never changed yours, its time.

I personally end up flushing mine every other year or so.

Ages ago it was never mentioned (like on my 1960's Chevy Impala) but yes . It has never been a lifetime fluid (just like the current trend to call automatics sealed for life).

Three years is the current period for brake fluid changes although some manufacturers recommend 2 years. Became much more important now with $ thousand ABS modules etc.

Its based on time, Not mileage. The fluid is like the tiny packets they add in all pill bottles, its hygroscopic and absorbs moisture. Its designed this way to keep the water in suspension. Over time this water lowers boiling point of fluid and can result in corrosion of internals of the brake system.

See my post #48 in this thread.

If the vehicle is very old especially if you live in area's that use salt during the winter you may find the brake bleeder screw almost impossible to remove. Sometimes they actually just snap off. I always use a deep 6 point socket. And to alleviate it i replaced mine with stainless at first change. If you have normal bleeder screws its generally a two person job that can be done at home.

Is it safe to mix different branded ATF fluids?

I found different brands of dexron III ATF fluids in the in-laws garage opened and unopened.

    Thank you for your help
